Bait can be bought at the Fish Shop for Gold.png5g each, crafted, grown in a Worm Bin, or found in Fishing Treasure Chests. Bait may also randomly appear in the Traveling Cart's stock for Gold.png100-1,000g.Thirty bait are the reward for completing the Bundle Teal.png River Fish Bundle in the Fish Tank.

Bait cannot be used with the Bamboo Pole. Only the Fiberglass Rod (unlocked at Fishing skill level 2) or the Iridium Rod (unlocked at Fishing skill level 6) can use bait. Bait can also be used with Crab Pots.

Use

Requires: Fiberglass Rod.png Fiberglass Rod or Iridium Rod.png Iridium Rod.

To attach bait to your fishing rod, open the Inventory screen, then left-click or right-click on the bait (left-click to select the stack, right-click to select one piece of bait), and then right-click on the fishing rod.

On an Xbox controller, open the inventory with B, then press A on the bait to select the whole stack (or X to pick up a single one), then X to attach to the rod.

Only one bait will be consumed per use. The remaining bait can be detached by right-clicking the rod in your inventory or pressing X on the Controller.

On iOS, drag the bait on to the rod. There is currently no known way on iOS to remove bait from a rod.

Effect

Using bait with your fishing rod reduces the delay before a nibble by 50%.

Bait is not used in any quests.

Tips

Levels 21-29 of the mines are generally the best source of bug meat for players focusing on fishing, as none of the monsters who drop it spawn further down.
