Villager Path Map Missing

Original heading: Crafting > Crafting Items Outside the Farm : Missing Map of Villager-Paths at the Spa/Railroad/Witch Hut Area

There are maps for all other areas of the map where the villager-paths are, but not a map for the area north of Robin’c Carpenter Shop where the Spa, railroad tracks, and witch hut entrance are. I know Sebastian walks near the railroad tracks and takes a smoke, and Linus walks to the spa in the winter to stay warm. Marugula (talk) 05:58, 13 November 2019 (UTC)

Yep, the existing images were created by 2 very generous users who let the game run for an entire year to get them. If that sounds like something you'd like to do, I'm sure everyone who uses the wiki would be extremely grateful! But, be warned, version 1.4 is releasing in 2 weeks, so villagers paths may change. margotbean (talk) 15:51, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
Hm. Might villagers' paths change after the Community Center is restored? Did the images cover that? Butterbur (talk) 06:39, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
I've no idea since I didn't create them, but anything is possible. Perhaps likely, since the creator went the Joja route. margotbean (talk) 15:34, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
Thanks. Just something to consider for anyone contemplating creation of a v1.4 map. Butterbur (talk) 19:58, 14 November 2019 (UTC)

Profitability

Using the sell prices listed on the wiki, I’ve been trying to figure out which crafting recipes are profitable. Would someone with more experience like to check me on this or add a Profitability section to the Crafting page?

Assuming lowest-quality ingredients:

Item | Profit per Craft | Notes

Cherry Bomb | 15g | less profitable than Copper Bars

Quality Sprinkler | 80g | Not profitable with Blacksmith Profession

Fertilizers | N/A | Not profitable to make and sell, but cheaper to make than buy; see https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Fertilizer#Fertilizer_Cost

Wild Seeds (Sp) | 170g | Except normal-quality Daffodils, growing the seeds yields more profit than selling them

Wild Seeds (Su) | 340g | Except normal-quality Sweet Peas, growing the seeds yields more profit than selling them

Wild Seeds (Fa) | 220g (with Bear’s Knowledge, 180g) | Except normal-quality Common Mushrooms and all Blackberries without Bear’s Knowledge, growing the seeds yields more profit than selling them

Wild Seeds (Wi) | -80g | The seeds are unprofitable to make and sell, but anything grown from them will yield profit

Ancient Seeds | 25g | The seeds are worth more than the artifact, but are much more profitable to plant than sell

Grass Starter | 40g

Tea Sapling | with Crafted Wild Seeds: (Sp) 415g, (Su) 375g, (Fa) 395g, (Wi) 409g; with Seed Maker (conservatively assuming one seed per input): 2 Wild Horseradish 385g, 2 Spice Berries 325g, 2 Common Mushrooms 405g, 2 Winter Roots 345g | Crafted Wild Seeds (Wi) figure uses (value of ingredients)/10 rather than the seed sell price; Common Mushrooms in the Seed Maker may be an attractive option if you chose Mushrooms for the Farm Cave

Spinner | 10g | Not profitable with Blacksmith Profession

Trap Bobber | 120g (with Blacksmith Profession, 90g)

Cork Bobber | 105g

Barbed Hook | 70g | Not profitable with Blacksmith Profession

Sturdy Ring | 305g (with Blacksmith Profession, 245g)

Oil of Garlic | 300g (with Oil from Pierre’s, 200g) | Less profitable than Pickled Garlic

Flute Block | 50g

Drum Block | 50g

Transmute (Au) | 10g (with Blacksmith Profession, 15g)

I tried adding this info to the page myself and it got flagged as "Mass edit by a new user" (understandably). I saved the txt of what I tried to add if anyone needs/wants it. Foxinthestars (talk) 16:12, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
It's an intriguing idea - Crafting for profit. I don't have nearly enough time to double-check the math, but I would say it would be a good idea for a separate page -- called "Crafting/Profitability" perhaps. (I know Cooking profitability is on the same page as Cooking, but I would change it today if it weren't on the same page in the better part of 12 languages.) It could be linked to from the main Crafting page.
I see a lot of text in the "Notes" table cell for Wild Seeds - for crafting the Tea Sapling. That could be neatened up a bit. Also, it could use a mention that the basis for declaring a recipe profitable is the sell price of the constituent ingredients. Perhaps those sell prices could be included as well. For now, it's nice that the info is here on the talk page. margotbean (talk) 17:58, 12 May 2020 (UTC)
The problem with cost of constituent ingredients is that it usually depends on their quality. You can wait to gather regular quality ingredients only, but that is problematic and rather impractical. So one thing is silver, another gold, and how many ways do you want to calculate?
I've never cooked for profit, but I have watched recipe cost for price per unit of energy when eaten. It's the same sort of problem. In general, I have not noticed any particularly lucrative profit-generators among recipes, cooking or crafting. Just farming (no artisan) seems much more controllable both for getting the raw ingredients and for selecting the quantity to process, both of which seem to me to be critical factors in guaranteeing a revenue stream.
Is there really a sufficient interest out there for this kind of information? Just asking, as I don't really see the attraction. Butterbur (talk) 03:49, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
We could start with the individual pages, noting "this recipe is profitable..." and noting the circumstances in which it's profitable. I think the Barbed Hook has a note already like that. Otherwise.... ?? margotbean (talk) 21:18, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
If the info is useful, then this seems like a reasonable way to do it. I can think of nothing better. Butterbur (talk) 04:44, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
I was curious enough to go tracking the info down; I don't know if anyone else is looking for it but having it collected together somewhere could save them a good bit of work if they were. It's here on the talk page, so I'm not going to worry about it too much more. In my own gameplay, Tea Saplings are the main crafting-for-profit recipe that's worth the effort (although yeah, the notes there are a complicated mess because you have so many options on the wild seeds). Foxinthestars (talk) 03:25, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
Interesting thought. I found Tea Saplings attractive also, but mainly as a way to fence off my farm animals. It's fencing that doesn't wear out, but is just as effective as the alternatives. And it's harvestable, which generates the profit you're talking about. I'd almost forgotten the crafting angle as a one-off initiator. But it is a necessary one. Makes a nice combination. More a specialty of tea bushes than crafting, though. Butterbur (talk) 06:05, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
To be clear, the profit I'm talking about is literally just "craft a batch of Tea Saplings and toss them in the shipping bin." I have more Wood than I know what to do with, and I have mushrooms in the Farm Cave so I have an endless supply of Common Mushrooms to convert to Wild Seed in the seed maker. If I want to gather the Fiber, instantly turning the stuff into 500g a pop is a pretty good side hustle. Foxinthestars (talk) 15:40, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

Sell prices

Why do Bombs have the sell prices, but the other sections do not? If the items can sell, I think we need to list the sell prices to be consistent. Phantomshark (talk) 21:19, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

Bombs are the only section with sell prices, you can remove them for consistency, if you like. margotbean (talk) 21:23, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

Maps of Villager Pathing

For reference (and posterity), the original pathing images were created by...

  • Beach, Mountain, and Pelican Town: reddit user Thermpotato123
  • Bus Stop and Cindersap Forest: reddit user u/xrstf in this post

Since we have new pathing images, the old images have been deleted. --margotbean (talk) 19:23, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
