A lot of furniture is missing from this page. I'll see if I can help sometime soon, but if anyone else gets the chance, let's try to finish this page! KnaveErrant (talk) 18:14, 8 March 2016 (EST)KnaveErrant

The page is complete and accurate as of v1.11. There may be an oddball pricing error, but all items are listed as well as where they can be obtained.
I deleted all info. about what furniture comes with what farm map, because it was incomplete and made for a lot of clutter. I may add it back in once I have complete info, and can make it readable enough to justify its inclusion.
If CA adds any new furniture in v1.2, I think I will go quietly into the great good night. Cheers. margotbean (talk) 07:15, 24 March 2017 (UTC)

Added all furniture that comes with each farmhouse. margotbean (talk) 02:35, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Error

I found a gramatical error about the Mixed Cane. I think it's better to renamed them into Mixed Canes because in the picture of the item we see many canes. CocoEnBuisson (talk) 13:39, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

It is a grammatical error, but I don't think the developer is going to change it, unfortunately. margotbean (talk) 18:21, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

Furniture sources with 1.5 Update

Hi everyone, Update 1.5 has particularly seen an influx in sources for various pieces of furniture getting more and more specific. Some long tables are only sold at given holidays, some beds only from particular stores, and don't get me started on what I've been realizing in the Rug section.

This page is big enough that basically any widespread changes could mean huge amounts of work, but if this keeps up, I figure it'd be worth at least floating the question: is there a point when it would be worth it to start changing how prices are displayed (such as leaning more towards a format like the Beds section, where individual vendors no longer get their own column), and have we reached that point?

We also have the option of leaving the tables as they are and shuffling the oddballs over to the preceding/succeeding paragraphs, like I think we have done in the past. This works, and would mostly just mean that these paragraphs are about to grow as we add the individual holiday and shop prices. Thoughts? Polk (talk) 20:00, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

I actually experimented with adding a separate column to the "Beds" section for "Source", but quickly realized that if there are >1 source, the colspan of the image would have to be 2+, and that involves a lot of tedious formatting work.
A quick fix might be to add a column called "Other Source(s)" to existing tables. In the long run, I don't know... margotbean (talk) 20:55, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

1.5 Furniture Placement

hey all! The 1.5 update had a quality of life update that was briefly stated as "You can now place most furniture outside." I've poked around a bit and this is what I've found/updated.

  • Any items that can be placed anywhere are now "Decoration" instead of "Furniture" and have a different description. Perhaps this was the case before, but there are a lot more items that show up as "Decoration" now, including items you'd typically think of as "Furniture" (e.g. chairs, tables).
  • I added general statements in each furniture section around whether those items could be placed anywhere or only inside.
  • The Special items section already had some items that could be placed anywhere. I started testing some of the ones that could previously only be placed inside, and those were now "Decoration"/could be placed anywhere, so I updated the ones I could verify. This section also had a link to the villager pathing section on the crafting page - I moved that to the top now that significantly more items can be placed anywhere.

So, some thoughts/questions (some nitpicky lol just brainstorming):

  • How do infobox descriptions on item pages work? A significant number of items than can now be placed outside currently have the description "Can be placed inside your house" (e.g., the Pink Office Chair from my screenshot above. I wasn't if those are pulling from somewhere.
  • The phrasing all over the wiki flip flops between "outside" and "anywhere," for any furniture not in the Farmhouse - wasn't sure which was more appropriate to keep using, since a lot of things can be placed outside the farmhouse, but also outside the farm, inside villagers' homes or town buildings, etc.

Thoughts, changes, suggestions welcome. Thanks all! Efarn (talk) 03:11, 17 January 2021 (UTC)

Template:Infobox furniture defaults to the description "Can be placed inside your house" if no other description is used. To change it, simply place |description = {{Description|decoration}} in the infobox for the furniture item. margotbean (talk) 20:56, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

Special items as Furniture

We have put a lot of items under the Furniture category that are not listed in the Data > Furniture.xnb file, which are items that appear in the game as Furniture or Decoration and you just have to click on it to remove it and place it to your inventory, but are rather listed in Data > BigCraftablesInformation.xnb, they appear with no category under their name and you have to use a tool to break them (or to keep left-clicking with nothing in your hands).

So, I was wondering if you want to split them from the other classic furniture, and also where is the limit? Because there are items such as the Mini-Jukebox, or the Maneki Neko Cat Statues, that are more useful items, so do we add also other machines such as the Telephone, the Farm Computer, the Coffee Machine or the Sewing Machine, which could perfectly fit as furniture for a house? ClemNad (talk) 05:40, 24 January 2021 (UTC)

Yes, I think those items should be listed as "Special" furniture. Historically, there has been overlap between BigCraftables.xnb and Furniture.xnb... Some items listed in both files.
If it's craftable, put it on the Crafting page as well, but list it as Furniture, because once it's crafted, it acts like furniture. I hope that makes sense! margotbean (talk) 19:08, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
