One "Mis-shelved" Book

Besides the 20 lost books, there's one book that's already in the library on 01 Spring year 1, but it can't be accessed. The countertop pointer points at it (the position at the far end of the counter), but the game can't find it and claims it's missing. The book is a set of tips on farming, from a farmer.

It might appear to be a bug, but I think not. The mis-shelved book becomes accessible as soon as you actually find a missing one. When you go to the library then, both can be read, and they are placed next to each other. I think the whole thing serves to alert the player who hasn't yet found a book to the fact that some are missing (and may be found). It's a clue. When the player has solved the mystery, the reward is the set of tips in the mis-shelved book. Clearly, this is for players who don't read Wikis, which is truly in keeping with the original notion of RPGs.

I'll put this on the list of additions for the article and get to it sometime, unless someone else wants to get to it first. Butterbur (talk) 21:48, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

Lost Book Artifact Spots

Has anyone else noticed that the game keeps generating artifact spots for Lost Books even after all of them have been found? If you dig one up, you get the same message that a book was found and the library stacks have increased. However, they haven't increased. There's no more room allotted, no more text, no titles.

This seems like a bug to me. And it wastes a little of a day's playing time and energy to dig one of these up, which can be a game-play factor when one has a lot of things to accomplish in a short time. So it's not always entirely minor. Butterbur (talk) 18:54, 18 May 2018 (BST)

This is one bug I've never personally encountered. But I never kept track of books... I just noticed that I started getting mixed seeds a lot more when the library was complete. margotbean (talk) 21:34, 18 May 2018 (BST)
I've noticed the mixed seeds too in other game lines. Not sure if I got the bug in all those either. But I'm definitely getting it now in my most recent line (now at 12 Fall 1). Not many mixed seeds yet in that one, but it's early. Butterbur (talk) 07:41, 19 May 2018 (BST)
This behavior was occurring while I had discovered exactly 20 books. I went ahead and dug up a 21st artifact spot for lost books. After saving the day (a Saturday), the next generation of artifact spots had none for lost books, but had mixed seeds aplenty. Not sure if the change of week was also a factor. Bug when finding lost books in mines

So I was in the mines and I had a mod on where I wouldn't take damage. To get through levels quickly I would use bombs to blow up all the rocks and monsters. However, every time I found a lost book in the sand/dirt areas, and collected an item at the same time, the message for when you found a lost book would appear, but "lost book" is replaced with whatever item I got. For example, I collected a stone and got the message "You found a stone!" The part about the library's collection didn't appear, and I'm pretty sure I was holding up the Stone. Yep, that glitch was removed with version 1.3. Fortunately, it doesn't affect anything but the display, meaning your lost books still counted towards the museum's collection. margotbean (talk) 22:26, 20 October 2019 (UTC)

Animation?

Okay, so I might be wrong about this, but I remember that when you obtain a lost book it usually has this animation where you hold it up and it glows? However, for me it's just been having the same animation as a regular item. I think this could be because I'm wearing a Magnet Ring? I just thought you might want to add this as a glitch. Sorry if I did this wrong, I'm pretty new to posting on here... Fun Cupcake i81 (talk) 21:29, 28 March 2020 (UTC) Fun Cupcake i81 =)

That was a change in 1.4, I'll add it to the page, thanks!! margotbean (talk) 16:55, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

21 Books

As of game version 1.4.5: Having added info on the book that was not lost (making 21 books total), I would like to mention that the game counts only books found, the missing ones (see the <archaeologyFound> field in the SaveGameInfo file, under key "102"). However, once the count reaches 20, the game continues to produce artifact spots for missing books, which eventually allows a 21st "missing" one to be found, making the final count 21. Verified in play on Windows, Steam installation. Butterbur (talk) 00:56, 30 March 2020 (UTC)

Addendum: Clearly, the count of 21 books found indicates a bug. I have verified only that the UI displays the original "Tips..." on day 1 before any artifact spots have been dug, plus 20 found over time (at which time the count is 20), and no more. Another artifact can then be dug that registers the 21st book found, but the UI displays nothing more. So, is it just the count that ends up wrong, or is there an intended 21st found book that the UI never displays? I tend to think the former, for all the places where books can be read from seem filled when the count reaches 20. So, it's a pretty ineffectual bug, just that it renders the digging of one artifact spot to be wasted activity and that cannot be avoided. Butterbur (talk) 02:36, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
