Precedence in Order of Accessing Ingredients

If an item is needed by a cooking recipe, I believe that the game searches inventory for it first, then the refrigerator. (If that's reversed it's because I don't remember. I scrupulously avoid that problem when I cook, ensuring the intended items are taken.) If the Mini-Fridge is now also used as an automatic supplier, what's the ordering among refrigerator, mini-fridge, and inventory? And what if there are more minis? Among minis, which is taken first?

Within just the refrigerator, I place them in order so that small eggs and milk are taken before large, and lower qualities before higher. In multi-source automated access, this could get complicated, particularly if more than one source has the same type of item. And think of the prospects for fish usage if you cook a recipe calling for "any fish"! Butterbur (talk) 21:46, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

Inventory gets checked first, then main fridge, then mini-fridge. Within each it takes it from the last slot if there are multiple items that match. Still need to confim which order mini-fridges get checked, if it is by order placed or by x,y location. I'll check now. Metalax (talk) 22:54, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

With a quick test, it appears that it goes in reverse order that the ingredient is placed in a mini-fridge, not caring which particular one or position. Need to do a more thourgh test though as that would seem to be an odd design choice. Metalax (talk) 23:03, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
Ok this is weird. On the Y axis it is consistently taking from the uppermost mini-fridge(ie. lower y value). On the X axis however, it seems to be consistently taking from the second placed mini-fridge, ignoring the X posistion. Going to continue testing.Metalax (talk) 23:26, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
I'm suspecting that it is going by the order(or reverse) in which the mini-fridges were purchased. Not in a position to test that further with a clean save tonight however. Metalax (talk) 23:43, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
Wow. Thanks, Metalax. But this sounds worse than I could have imagined. I'm not sure I'm going to want to use them at all! And how can all that stuff even be written understandably (and memorably) for the article? Are you finding, though, that the minis are accessed first, before refrigerator and inventory? Inventory gets used first, then the main fridge, then it goes to the mini-fridges. While there is something weird going on with the mini-fridges, once you have established an order, that order will remain consistent so it's not too dificult to make sure that your desired generic fish/etc gets used first. Very good to know; thanks! I do wish there were a way to text-label minis (and chests!) as reminders of whatever, such as ordering. My memory is fragile enough that I can easily forget such details from one run to another, or even hour to hour. It could make returning to a saved game after some time more readily understandable too. Perhaps the developers could determine how much work that would be. No doubt the display aspect would be the most complicated, especially for mobile. Butterbur (talk) 16:52, 3 December 2019 (UTC)
