Page format

We can list monsters on this page or other pages (not both please). I've seen a few pages pop up like Slimes, if these are made they should have a link in Discussion so copys don't end being made Also having the proper information listed with a resting position pic of the monster.

Monster Page template?

I suggest converting this page into something like Villagers and having individual pages for each monster, or at least type of monster? I'd almost consider slimes one monster with variants, same with bats. But afaik all the other monsters have individual patterns, art, HP, and even strategies for killing them.

That would mean we'd get Slimes and Bats as pages, then Cave Flyer, Maggots, Beetle, Stone Crabs, Spooky Ghosts, Skeletons, and the rest (that are missing).

Eslachance (talk) 08:00, 1 March 2016 (EST)

I agree, almost any layout would be better than the current. It's disorganized and poorly sorted. Plus, many enemies have enough stats and variety to merit their own pages. Trying to put all that information onto this one page, in the current system, would take up way too much space and be far too cluttered.

TownEater (talk) 14:37, 3 March 2016 (EST)

Ok so, I got an xnb opener from the forums, and so I can get good sprites of every monster, as well as their proper names. I'm going to start the process of overhauling the page and moving all the monster information over to individual pages, it may take some time, a few hours maybe.

TownEater (talk) 17:44, 3 March 2016 (EST)

You may want to check out Monsters/Sandbox. I suspect you are aiming to get a similar result to that and duplicating effort seems silly.

PenguinTod (talk) 17:47, 3 March 2016 (EST)

Yeah, it's about like that, but the current state of that sandbox is a little low quality and missing a lot of monsters. I'm still working on the edits. Should I save them to a sandbox instead of pushing them right to the monsters page, once I finish?

TownEater (talk) 18:07, 3 March 2016 (EST)

I'm fine either way, so my vote goes with be bold! Go ahead and push it over the main Monsters page and see what sticks.

PenguinTod (talk) 18:18, 3 March 2016 (EST)

I've finished the new monsters page, but I want to get the new monster pages done before I push the changes, so anyone looking for the information won't be out of luck until those pages are done.

TownEater (talk) 18:56, 3 March 2016 (EST)

Ok, I published the monsters page and I made pages for every monster. There are still some issues with image inconsistency, and all the monster pages are stubs, but I'd call this a good improvement on what was here before and all the monster information has been preserved on the new pages.

TownEater (talk) 19:37, 3 March 2016 (EST)

Tables would be better suited then galleries for this page. Some images are stretched and the size relative to each others is way off.

Monster Names?

Is there any central place to get the real, game given names of these monsters? As of right now there's still plenty more to add, but a problem I'm running into is I don't really know what to call these things, or where to find that out. The poster in the adventurer's guild helps a little, but doesn't give too many specifics.

TownEater (talk) 07:01, 3 March 2016 (EST)

Only a few minutes later, it's occurred to me to check in Steam/steamapps/common/Stardew Valley/Content/Characters/Monsters and look at the names of the sprites listed there. The result is a list of names and an interesting job of piecing out who is who. Here's the list:

Armored Bug, Bat, Big Slime, Bug, Cat, Crow, Duggy, Dust Spirit, Fireball, Fly, Frog, Frost Bat, Frost Jelly, Ghost, Goblin Peasant, Green Slime, Grub, Lava Bat, Lava Crab, Metal Head, Mummy, Rock Crab, Serpent, Shadow Brute, Shadow Girl, Shadow Guy, Shadow King, Shadow Shaman, Skeleton Mage, Skeleton Warrior, Skeleton, Sludge, Spiker, Squid Kid, Stone Golem, Turtle, Yeti

TownEater (talk) 07:12, 3 March 2016 (EST)

Is there anything known about the yeti and the turtle besides the images (http://imgur.com/a/vxNtF)? Hard to find anything about them anywhere.

Farm Monsters

Does anyone know how what monsters show up on the farm works? I'm assuming it's based on your furthest mine level but could also be level based. I know on latest beta update 1.3.25 I'm seeing Iridium bats fairly often now and I feel like it was only after reaching 50 in skull cavern but before actually beating one there. I think at this point will spawn purple slimes, green slimes, all of the bats, the serpent, wilderness golem and the shadow brute. Possibly other slimes as well but I don't think so. Justdev42 (talk) 04:34, 22 July 2018

In general, it should scale with your Combat level. I have no idea which monsters spawn at which combat level, however. Your comment is the most detailed info. I've seen about it, actually! I will put it on my to do list to look in the code and see what the triggers are. margotbean (talk) 17:46, 22 July 2018 (BST)

Slimes in the Secret Woods

I almost looked past the obvious: there are slimes of various kinds in the Secret Woods. Which exact kinds, I'm unsure of. And what might be done to the table to include them is also uncertain, since even the current table does not display well on PC. It's too wide. Butterbur (talk) 03:01, 27 August 2020 (UTC)

Code for these is in Woods::resetSharedState. Spring and Summer are always Green Slimes, Fall is 50/50 between Green Slimes and Frost Jellies, Winter is always Frost Jelly. Haven't confirmed ingame. BlaDe (talk) 04:39, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
I agree with both your points Butterbur - those slimes should be included here and the table format could be improved. I looked through the design history and this page has had a lot of layouts over the years, including just breaking tables out into sections vertically on the page (which doesn't look great imo).
Thinking maybe the best way to clean this up might be to make a full-page table with more info (like the Artifacts page) split by section. Prob drop info would make it too bloated, but might be nice to have base HP and damage as comparable stats in a table. What do you think? -- Katzeus (talk) 10:25, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, both of you. Tables aren't my strong point, even though I know how to edit them. The problem is that I know nothing about how they appear on varieties of devices. So for format, even content, I defer to those who know such things. I think BlaDe has located the needed additional info on types, which for me would be ingame hit-and-miss. So I'd like to let someone else do the editing. It would turn out better. Butterbur (talk) 17:27, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
I'll can take a crack at it! Don't mind at all -- Katzeus (talk) 12:15, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
I've made a mockup would be good to hear some feedback before replacing the article. All drops weren't included to keep the cell size a bit smaller, and while I think it's helpful to have things like damage and XP in a sortable table like this, it's harder to get an 'overview' of all the monsters because it extends so far vertically.
I would actually size down the images so they're the same 'pixel scale' - but just wanted to see what the data would look like laid out. -- Katzeus (talk) 14:51, 1 September 2020 (UTC)
IMO, replace the drops with location(s) and have one table. If you include any drops, it's only a matter of time before someone adds all the drops (and percentages), and that would be a lot of bloat. margotbean (talk) 15:02, 2 September 2020 (UTC)
Good feedback - I've cleaned up and populated with data from the respective articles. Any final feedback is welcome before I push to update this table -- Katzeus (talk) 16:58, 21 September 2020 (UTC)

Missing Monster

It seems one can't get to a template's code anymore by using a pagename that begins with Template:. But I thought I ought to leave a trace mention that the Stick Bug monster is missing from the monster navbox list. Butterbur (talk) 21:44, 26 December 2020 (UTC)
