Drop Percentages

FYI: There has been some confusion over the drop percentages for various monsters lately.

All monsters can drop more than one item when slain. Slaying a mummy gives a 99% chance of one Solar Essence dropping, a separate 15% chance of a different Solar Essence dropping, a separate 5% chance of Cloth dropping, etc.

Editors, please don't delete information simply because you don't understand it. That's what talk pages are for. Thank you! margotbean (talk) 15:38, 23 July 2017 (BST)

Ok, I'll go to talk pages earlier then. I think that's a desirable thing for the Wiki. It's just not been as commonplace here as on other Wikis.
It's surely not my interest to delete information: please understand. However, when information is presented in a way that is not understandable, some attempt must be made to make it understandable. Apparently you understand what the article is supposed to day. But I tell you that the article does not say it. Sorry if I didn't hit on a better way in my first attempts.

Since I can't make out what is being said even from your explanation above (at least not with perfect assurance I have it right), I'm not sure any longer just what edit might make the article better. So I don't want to submit another edit of my own. But I have to say that simple reversion of my edit is far from the goal of improving the article. It misses the fact that the thing still miscommunicates. Would you like to give it another chance with something different than what's been there? *That* is what is needed particularly. Or perhaps you can explain more fully what goes on here on the talk page, so I might see well enough to make a different change. Reverting just doesn't solve the problem.

So let me ask some questions.

  1. Does the game go through a whole series of chances (random numbers) to decide individually which (if any) of these items is dropped?
  2. Does this list contain duplicates? I'm referring, of course, to the Solar Essence. So, does the game give one opportunity of 99%, followed by another opportunity of 15%? And if the first opportunity fails, can a second one succeed? Which means of course that you'd get only one item.
  3. Is this list completed in its entirety every time a mummy dies, so that if the random numbers come up just right, you could get one of every item on the list? Or does the game just go down the list until some magic maximum of items has been dropped? And is this list then in the order they are searched, or is the search order random? It's all well and good to say that monsters can drop "more than one" item. How many can they drop? If I get two items, are they always solar essences, or can I get both a Cloth and a Diamond, and no Solar Essences?
  4. In fact, if I've reached the bottom of the mines, is there that minute chance I could end up with two Prismatic Shards, or is there only the one chance for it, and the article is only trying to describe alternate searches? And for that matter, what alternates? I don't see how you can get to the Skull Cavern to fight a Mummy unless you have obtained the Skull Key at the bottom of The Mines, so isn't that moot in this instance?

I appreciate the desire to be concise in presentation here, but it is never helpful to shrink the data so far that it can't be understood. I can suggest that the current summary in the box could work fine if there was sufficient descriptive text in the article to describe what it means. The summary doesn't have to say it all. It can then work as a quick reference for someone who already knows the details of how it all works, but just wants a quick peek at the items themselves. What I'm saying here is that it doesn't work alone, without that text in the article. And maybe that's the edit that is needed to fix the problem. I can't do it until I know what that text should say. Butterbur (talk) 17:35, 23 July 2017 (BST)

Upgraded Mummy

What is the name for the upgraded Mummy that appears during the new 1.5 Skull Caverns Qi quest? And should it have its own dedicated page? I need to document that it drops an Enricher. --Zamiel (talk) 17:56, 8 January 2021 (UTC)

I tentatively added all the new monsters to the navbox at the bottom of the page. The new mummy can have its own page called "Mummy (dangerous)". margotbean (talk) 23:56, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
