Mermaid Boat

Some thing which I would like to add: 1. Here you can also avoid the time expenditure by opening the inventory in single player. 2. Even without the secret note you can obtain the pearl (but I had to play it twice, maybe I was to slow?). --EASY (talk) 15:09, 4 August 2018 (BST)

I added the point about the secret note, but I have a question about opening the inventory -- when does it have to be done? Do you have to have quick fingers to open the menu before the cutscene triggers, or is there plenty of time? ...I'm remembering that you can't access the UI during the actual show, so I think it's an important point to specify. Thanks, margotbean (talk) 19:24, 4 August 2018 (BST)
In my version (PC) there is no actual cutscene where I cannot interact. The curtain opens, the mermaid appears and then I just open the menu (via "Esc"-Key). Due the menu, you can't see the mermaid sing but you hear it and also see other mermaids swimming on the sides (but I think this is not part of the show). You can still interact with anything, run around or open the inventory again until the show is over. Same is with the submarine.--EASY (talk) 01:29, 5 August 2018 (BST)
Fortunately I've just reached the Night Market in my latest save, so I could see for myself exactly what you mean. It's the only cutscene where you can access inventory the entire time. Weird! Anyway, thanks for all the info, and I'll add it to the page. Cheers, margotbean (talk) 17:54, 5 August 2018 (BST)

Entry to the mermaid boat

Did you notice the different plank while going to the mermaid boat? It is a serpant or a snake and I was curious if there is any floor like this to buy (I know there is the picture of the serpant).--EASY (talk) 01:30, 5 August 2018 (BST)

No, that flooring can't be purchased anywhere. But, you could look into making a mod for it.  :) margotbean (talk) 17:54, 5 August 2018 (BST)

Shane Attendance

Shane's schedule says he's supposed to go to the beach at 15:00 (3pm) on Winter 15, but I just played through that day in year 1, and he stayed inside Marnie's Ranch all day. Jas went to the festival alone. Anyone else? margotbean (talk) 18:34, 6 August 2018 (BST)

He did the same with me. I had even a hot pepper to give him there, but nope. He was in the ranch all time. Sapador (talk) 07:36, 14 August 2018 (BST)
I reported it as a bug on the forums. Maybe it will get fixed.  :/ margotbean (talk) 11:52, 14 August 2018 (BST)

Beach remains accessible

The beach remains accessible (including Willy's shop) on the festival days before the festival time. Wouldn't this be important? During all other festivals the place remains blocked. The night market is the only one you can enter the place out of the festival schedulled time. Sapador (talk) 23:38, 14 August 2018 (BST)

Yes, it's important. That info should be on the Shop Schedules and Festivals pages too. margotbean (talk) 12:27, 15 August 2018 (BST)

Pool of bubbles

Pools of bubbles aren't necessarily more frequent - Margotbean

You can run the lake and the river borders all over the town, the forest and the montain; if you find one pool of bubbles from 6 AM to 2 AM two days in a row, you're already been lucky. Well, I found 2 or more pool of bubbles each of the 3 nights in the very confined pond of the submarine, during the few 3 hours I was there each night. Was it a 3 days consecutive coincidence? Sapador (talk) 23:38, 14 August 2018 (BST)

Since that hasn't been my in-game experience, I have to say yes, it was a coincidence. margotbean (talk) 12:27, 15 August 2018 (BST)
Yeah... it's still a possibility. And thanks for always answering. If this wiki is great, it's certainly also due to your dedication. Sapador (talk) 00:30, 17 August 2018 (BST)

Submarine fishing probability

The probabilities on this page is not right due to the check mechanism just like Slime Egg-Press. Please look into the code at StardewValley.Locations.Submarine.getFish(). I will simplify the logic so as not to post the code here.

IF Random < 0.1 THEN GET A Blobfish (There are 90% the Blobfish check will fail)
IF Random < 0.18 THEN GET A Spook Fish (The real probability is (1 - 10%) * 18% = 16.2%)
IF Random < 0.28 THEN GET A Midnight Squid ((1 - 10%) * (1 - 18%) * 28% = 20.664%)
IF Random < 0.1 THEN GET A Sea Cucumber ((1 - 10%) * (1 - 18%) * (1 - 28%) * 10% = 5.3136%)
IF Random < 0.08 THEN GET A Super Cucumber ((1 - 10%) * (1 - 18%) * (1 - 28%) * (1 - 10%) * 8% = 3.825792%)
IF Random < 0.05 THEN GET A Octopus ((1 - 10%) * (1 - 18%) * (1 - 28%) * (1 - 10%) * (1 - 8%) * 5% = 2.1998304%)
IF Random < 0.01 THEN GET A Pearl ((1 - 10%) * (1 - 18%) * (1 - 28%) * (1 - 10%) * (1 - 8%) * (1 - 5%) * 1% = 0.417967776%)
Get A Seaweed ((1 - 10%) * (1 - 18%) * (1 - 28%) * (1 - 10%) * (1 - 8%) * (1 - 5%) * (1 - 1%) = 41.378809824%)

So it's almost impossible to get a pearl in the night market by fishing (also 1% is almost impossible too). Lyu (talk) 01:05, 26 January 2019

This is presuming one cast. Obviously you cast more than once per a night. I just caught one for the first time. They are still incredibly rare, that's to say the least. It's much like if you roll a handful of dice you are more likely to have one land on 6 than if you roll just one. --Ruedii (talk) 03:47, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

Reorder the paintings?

I feel like the paintings list would be more useful if they were put in order of appearance rather than alphabetical. This would make it much easier to figure out which painting will be sold on which day. The proposed order would therefore be Red Eagle, Portrait of a Mermaid, Solar Kingdom, Clouds, 1000 Years From Now, Three Trees, The Serpent, Tropical Fish #173, Land of Clay.

With this ordering, the years would be put in order (1/4/7, 2/5/8, 3/6/9) and within each year the date would also be in order, making it trivial to figure out which painting will be sold on which date. Fevix (talk) 05:44, 27 January 2019 (UTC)

Mediawiki says tables can be both collapsed and sortable, but for some reason it's not as straightforward as it should be. I've added an inner table, so the whole thing is sortable by year, day, or name. You can click on the year header to sort by year, then Ctrl+click on day to do a secondary sort. Thanks for bringing this up, I'd meant the tables to be sortable from the beginning, but it got lost along the way.  ;) margotbean (talk) 16:46, 27 January 2019 (UTC)

Submarine fishing Iridium 1.4

Was fishing on the sub post 1.4 no mods, got 2 iridium midnight squid from max cast and perfect catch, was using wild bait, seafoam pudding, and trap bobber, I have screenshot both of where i was standing and the fish at iridium quality, not sure how/where to upload them for the talk page, but yea its not impossible anymore, just very unlikely --Ganomex (talk) 21:22, 11 December 2019 (UTC)

It used to be that the only determining factor was distance from the nearest land tile... Now, who knows?  :D Thanks for the report, I'll remove that note from the night market fish pages. We can add more details about what affects quality if we find them. Thanks again! margotbean (talk) 21:50, 11 December 2019 (UTC)
My guess is that the key change with v1.4 is Seafoam Pudding, allowing the maximum fishing level to increase from 13 to 14. At clearWaterDistance=2 (the maximum value possible in the submarine), there is 0% chance of gold/iridium fish (i.e., gold on non-perfect or iridium on perfect catches) for all fishing levels up to and including 13. But at level 14, the chance becomes 33% (see table).
For what it's worth, even at fishing=14, the maximum value of fFishSize in the submarine is still much less than one -- it's now 0.70. Meaning that I believe it's still impossible to get true "maximum" size fish for any of the submarine fish. The issue being that the size ranges for Spook Fish, Blobfish, and Midnight Squid are inconsistent with every other fish on the wiki -- they all list 8-25 inches, but the formula used for all other fish would imply a range of 8-26 inches. If 26 was excluded because it's not possible in game, shouldn't all impossible-to-catch values be excluded? So shouldn't the size range for all three fish be 8-20 inches? (One inch larger than the 8-19 range possible in v1.3) Nebulous Maestress (talk) 23:14, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

Coffee cups per night

Hi! I am a relatively new player so I have been using the wiki constantly to help me with the game :) Also I am on mobile if that matters. I have noticed that the Coffee Merchant will give me a new cup of coffee every ten minutes/as soon as the time changes. I'm in the second year and I decided to use this to get as much coffee as possible in the three days, then use it as gifts because all the villagers except the kids at least like it. I collected 52 between 5:00 pm and 1:30 am then used the totem guy to go home each night, 156 total for the market. That's four years, three months, and 4 birthdays worth of gifts if I give them all to one villager, or almost a year's worth of gifts for 5 villagers! — Dragonsaints (talk) 19:57, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

Hello Dragonsaints! Enjoy that exploit and stockpile your coffee while you can, because once you update the game to version 1.4, you'll only be able to get one cup per night. margotbean (talk) 21:11, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

Merchant

The merchant who gives you the coffee appears to be the same as the desert trader... (I wonder if you went to the desert on those days whether she'd still be there?) But anyways, could someone add this? I could but I'm still pretty new to this and not sure if I'd do it right. Thanks!! Fun Cupcake i81 (talk) 04:14, 3 April 2020 (UTC) =D

Placed items now disappear after Night Market?

I had a chest sitting up on the dock in an out-of-the-way corner, it had been there all year without incident, but when I returned to the beach on Winter 18 it is now gone, I heard a splash of items hitting the water when I first entered the area. --Teska (talk) 10:27, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Also, a note that the crab pots I had placed behaved normally, they disappeared during Night Market but re-appeared on Winter 18. --Teska (talk) 10:29, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
Please post a bug report for this on the official forums! margotbean (talk) 18:54, 31 December 2020 (UTC)
