Item Stowing

Help! What exactly is this option about? Probably about moving items between inventory and chests, yes. Any other changes of location? Anything to do with the *way* things are moved, how stacks are treated, stuff like that? And the options themselves? "Off" seems intuitive enough. But "Gamepad Only"? (And as the default?) What do things look/behave like when that option is chosen? And how does that differ from "On"? Is it all/only about what hardware you are using to play, or rather about what that hardware can do?
