Is a staircase equipment?

Currently, it has been classified as such. However, it is a (non-edible) consumable, unlike all other equipment, and once placed, it is immovable, and once used, it disappears. I call that "supply", though I don't know of any categories set up for that kind of item. Therefore, I think it would be appropriate to remove Staircase from the Equipment category. However, it seems to get there by a roundabout route, rather than by means of the standard entry at the bottom of its page. I assume the navbox is responsible, but I don't know how to mess with templates and won't even try. I recommend making this change to whomever knows how to accomplish it. Forgive my lack of reply, but I've been busy wrangling an inter-language template problem.
It seems to me that you're neglecting the fact that half the items in the "equipment" navbox are perishable. They aren't listed on the "equipment" page, so there is definitely asynchrousness there (asynchronicity?). I don't really have a problem with them being listed as "equipment" in the navbox, or by category, since there's no clear definition of what "equipment" is (that I can see). "Perishable equipment" is equipment, right?
For me, I think in terms of the underlying data files. It's all "Craftable" there -- the permanent types are listed in their own data file as "Big Craftables" and the other items are in the main data file of all objects, listed as category "Crafting." We're free to define useful categories of items for the wiki, as we see fit. I don't think anyone's made a clear strict definition yet. Any work you do there is pretty much paving new ground. Go with God, General Munchkin.
Funny story: for about 2 months I've been purging all tree syrups of any reference to "Artisan Goods" on this wiki. Why? They're not category -26 (Artisan) in the data file. They don't benefit from the Artisan profession, and they're not produced with Artisan Equipment. I found it to be mildly irritating. It was only yesterday that I realized the game labels them as "Artisan Goods" in the hover text.  :S margotbean (talk) 23:21, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
LOL That's me and equipment. The first sentence of the Equipment article is "Equipment is machinery that performs tasks for you when you set them in operation."! Furnace, Seed Maker, Recycling Machine, Artisan producers, etc. All positioned first, then set into operation by another action, which can be repeated. Not like staircases. Ah well. It's a communication choice. Do we use the categories based on what they are (their engineering origin) or on what they do (their function in the game)? Now, what artisan goods do is based on their engineering: they produce profits, subject to increased valuations from quality and bonuses. What equipment does kind of depends on how you divide game tasks up, and it's mostly subjective, or a way of looking at player approaches. I think I want to mull this over more. No sense my mucking about redefining stuff when it's all just my own point of view (and another could serve as well). Maybe I'll reverse my recent categorization stuff too, pending decisions. But now that I'm a General ... bwah hah hah! I'm in the army now! (Seems to me there was a guy about 200 years ago who went from Corporal to Supreme Ruler in one step. Named Napolean, if I remember. You might want to consider what such a promotion can do!) For now, I'll consider that you're speaking softly, but carrying a big stick. How about Sergeant? They're in charge of everything that counts. LOL Butterbur (talk) 04:51, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
