Furniture Placement

Hello Descan! Well, it seems we both had it half right and half wrong. Generally, furniture can't be placed outside the farm, but at least some of the items listed under "Special" furniture can be placed outside the farm. Most of the items you described (Tub o' Flowers, lamp posts, chests, scarecrows) are Crafted items and not "Furniture", so furniture rules don't apply. But some of the "Special" furniture can be placed outside the farm, so we need to address that on the Furniture page.

I will test all the special furniture items, and then update the page, really accurately this time! I can add the villager pathing maps shown at the bottom of the Crafting page to the furniture page then.

On a separate note, I'm sorry, I've had to delete your avatar image. It's absolutely nothing personal, it's just that I'm not sure we have the space to hold user images for all the thousands of users, so this is a rule that applies to all, not just you. I'm really sorry for the trouble, but I do want to wish you a (belated) warm welcome to the wiki! margotbean (talk) 13:11, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

That's fair enough! I wasn't aware that there was a clearly delineated difference between "Furniture" items and "Crafted" items (specifically, "Crafted" items that can be placed in the world). I thought Lampposts were considered furniture, but I took another look at the page and realized I just saw "lamps" and my brain filled in the blanks incorrectly. :P I am glad I was half right, though! In that at least some of the Special furniture are placable anywhere outside.
Good, good! As I said elsewhere, I'd do the testing myself but lacking access to the furniture catalogue on my current save, it'd be tough to do so. Only in the first year still! Plus not all the furniture is in there so there can always be edge cases. :P
And that's understandable. I can use it elsewhere! I mostly posted it here because it was the last thing I'd interacted with when I'd editted the save-game screen to make a little portrait for 'em; No hard feelings for your wanton destruction of my precious work that took, oh, about 5 minutes ;P
The goal of my edit in the end is to let players know that objects placed outside the farm can be destroyed if not carefully placed - I guess that the part on the crafting page works towards that goal? I didn't know it was there though - Perhaps it's new? I see an edit from Feb 18th. Otherwise, it'd indicate my own lack of observation, or it might indicate it's a bit too buried for an (in my view, at least) important consideration. Perhaps a "Objects placed in town may be deleted by villager pathing - See Crafting for details." in the summary section would suffice?
(I mean, I can't be the only person who would want to use all that open space in the town! I've been playing literally since the game came out and didn't know that objects would be deleted by NPC pathing until only the last few months. :P) --Descan (talk) 00:41, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
Hello. Excuse me for entering the discussion without being called; but I saw that the articles Chest, Crafting, Slime Incubator and Worm Bin, all have sections showing the amazing images of the NPC pathing; and I though if it wouldn't be useful to add something like this to the furniture article. It may be strange, as the general rule is they can't be placed outside the farm, but at the same time, when we read "be careful when placing them ouside", and we have nothing to help in this placement, this is also odd. And this is why I ask you if you have any idea on how to do it. Sapador (talk) 19:41, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
