Request: Add vinegar to NavboxIngredient?

Sorry if you aren't the right person to ask, but I'm a wiki noob and want to know how to add the vinegar page to the navbox, because it isn't in the navbox for ingredients. I added "

" to the bottom of the page but the navbox still doesn't list Vinegar. Sorry if this is a dumb question.
No problem at all! The navbox is actually a template, Template:NavboxIngredients. You can make edits directly there, but I added Vinegar for you in this case! Katzeus (talk) 09:30, 23 August 2016 (EDT)
Thank you very much for doing this and also teaching me how to do it! People like you are what make this wiki great. (Psst... Is it alright if I bother you if I have more questions or is there a page or something/someone else I should direct my questions to?)
Haha thanks, yeah I'm happy to answer any questions you've got! no prob! Katzeus (talk) 13:13, 23 August 2016 (EDT)

Custom Map

Blargh, i give up, i have no idea of how to create templates.. I tried to create a location/map template with the

Map.png

and

Maplocation.png

which would be positioned over the map location;

-i have tried Extension:ImageMap(i think this mediawiki does not have it enabled)

-and tried using css/div/style(i have no idea what i am doing lol)

I guess i`ll give up and start taking the pictures as is.. what do you think?

RalphFox (talk) 23:24, 26 February 2016 (EST)

Cool template idea! Give me a minute I may be able to put that together. --Katzeus (talk) 23:36, 26 February 2016 (EST)
Haha! nice! kk, thanks! --RalphFox (talk) 00:01, 27 February 2016 (EST)
By the way, can i suggest a template for locations :B? like the NPC one, but it would have the building photo as the first item, the map location at second photo(using the template for map maybe?), and other basic info like name, occupants, opening hours, etc --RalphFox (talk) 00:37, 27 February 2016 (EST)
Also a really good idea, let me look at that tomorrow. For now I got the map part working, I outlined the syntax at Template:Map. It's a useful template either way, but I think it'd fit well into a location template.--Katzeus (talk) 00:47, 27 February 2016 (EST).
Hahaha! awesome, congratulations and thanks! i`ll be back editing the locations tomorrow, today had to go on family trip and i want to play the game a little more before sleep heh :P RalphFox (talk) 22:39, 27 February 2016 (EST)

New Template: Location

Yay, i did it!! (i mostly copied your NPC template lol; i have added the locations category too auto add, like NPCs :P

Please Check Pierre's

Nice work!! Looks awesome --Katzeus (talk) 02:10, 29 February 2016 (EST)

Community Center

I dumped a bunch of info into the Talk:Community_Center page because I suck at formatting/editing, etc, so I figured it'd be better off there, and someone else could do the proper formatting on the main Community Center Page.

Suggestion: Transcribe item data across pages

Before it gets all the way to the bottom of the forum and is lost forever: http://community.playstarbound.com/threads/wiki-suggestion-transcribe-item-data-across-pages.107801/ --Arrow (talk) 11:46, 3 March 2016 (EST)

Thanks for linking this, and you're completely right. I think it's a little less urgent for a game like this then say, Starbound (which uses semantic for "transclusion" on the wiki). Mainly because most details here aren't going to drastically change. I think it would be good for information consistency for sure, let me take a look at where the biggest areas of disconnect are.
I'm a wiki admin on a site called [www.strategywiki.org StrategyWiki] so if you want I could get on this right away. I just want to make sure I get the green light before I start making sweeping changes to the site's layout like that. --Arrow (talk) 20:31, 3 March 2016 (EST)
Well let's take a look at specifically what you'd like to setup. Where were you thinking of starting with it? -- Katzeus (talk) 01:15, 6 March 2016 (EST)

Extension Request

Hello, I'm Kapra. I've been working on some templates that should be able to translate game's code directly into a format readable by the wiki, but current it still requires manual input. You an see my work so far on my user page. Currently, if allowed to, I would be able to make all instances of any given item to use the same data on any page in the wiki using this format. But to minimize the possibility of human error and reduce labor required to do this, it'd be easier to use arrays. Arrays can be used for filling up most information on items, adding information on NPCs' likes and dislikes, and potentially other things such as an NPC's schedule. Oath2order told me you may be able to add mediawiki extensions, so I would like to ask you to consider adding an extension to make use of arrays so that strings from the game's code can be easily translated by user-written templates. Please and thank you. -- Kapra (talk) 00:10, 5 March 2016 (EST)

Hey, this is cool work. I like the array extension a lot, and I don't have any problem installing it. My concern is where you'd be setting up every item as a separate template to hold the data. There are template limits on the number of templates that can serve to a page and with the number these lists would serve I worry it could break things.
My other concern is usability for community editing. We could automate all the infoboxes and tables completely updating from game data with bots, but I feel like that sort of cuts people out of the wiki process. I considered setting semantic up here to make most of the tables queries, but opted not to go that route.
If someone sees something incorrect I want it to be easy for them to update and not have to dig through two layers of templates to find the data. It seems like an unimaginable task to sort this all, but things aren't going to change in this game so rapidly we'll need automated systems to catch-up. I know taking that road means there may be a week or two before data gets 100% cleaned up, but long-term I think it'll make it easier for users. I'm all for arrays though! I just don't know about the implementation you're looking at. -- Katzeus (talk) 00:31, 5 March 2016 (EST)
In regards to the template limit, I have no idea. I've been on a few wikis but never on that end of the line. Other wikis I have seen with similar systems haven't had that issue (except once on a specific page, which wasn't something that made use of this), but I'm not sure if that something native to mediawiki or something they did themselves.

I had sent you a PM on the forums in April, can we talk there? -- Kapra (talk) 04:15, 2 June 2016 (EDT)

I could like, avoid using templates like Name Qualityprice and add that code to the table style templates themselves so it calls on less templates. I have a question though, lets stay I have a page full of a bunch of , would each individual instance of the list and ID template count towards the template limit or will it be treated like one of each, then just more of the different data templates after that? If each instance of ID and List is considered unique, I don't know what to do about that, but I can reduce the amount of templates used in List at least.
As for editing manually, I can try my best to make it easier. Take a look at the table on my page, it has a (edit) button underneath the name of each item. Clicking on this takes you directly to an item's data page and already sets you up in edit mode. If there is something they want to edit manually instead of touching the array, I can put manual parameters in the templates to override the array's data and use the user inputs. Also, currently the data templates use
{{
{}
for the start of the code. The first two brackets is to start a template and there's a close way at the bottom of the template, the next three open and closing brackets are to establish what kind of templates it will use. What I can do is change the three to something like {} so when you're on a data page, it brings up a template that educates you on how to edit data templates. And since you'll be using an alternate value for 1 on lists and other pages, adding this shouldn't contribute to the template limit. But, I've always been bad at explaining things so I might be able to write up basic documentation but I'd need someone else who understands to make it clearer for everyday users. -- Kapra (talk) 22:23, 5 March 2016 (EST)
Yeah, if you can have an easier way to set up the editing for the average joe editor it sounds interesting. I'll see about getting that extention setup tomorrow so you can play around with it.
As I understand it the template limit is on unique templates, not the number of times a template is called. So like 1 template 100 times counts as 1 template in use on the page toward the limit. I don't recall what the limit is, but hitting the limit can stop other templates from working, but it's just something we have to keep in mind when structuring pages. -- Katzeus (talk) 01:15, 6 March 2016 (EST)
Thanks, I'll try my best to work on a documentation to help people understand how to edit under this system. If each instance of a template being used doesn't contribute to the limit, I don't think it'd be that much of an issue based on other wikis, but I will still try to do the work manually where I can and avoid using other templates if necessary. Let me know if arrays start working so I can go ahead and try to make the NPC thing work. If we can't, I'll just try to enter all the items manually but I'd rather wait to do it with arrays if arrays are going to be a thing. -- Kapra (talk) 03:47, 9 March 2016 (EST)

I don't mean to be adding unneeded pressure, because I don't know what's going on where I'm not concerned, but is there any news regarding this? I don't want to write too much right now if the syntax will have to be changed later. -- Kapra (talk) 17:05, 21 March 2016 (EDT)

Sorry about the delay, I was away at GDC last week and didn't get a chance to set this up before I left. It's been installed now if you want to take a look -- Katzeus (talk) 03:38, 24 March 2016 (EDT)
Thanks so much. I'll start working on it. -- Kapra (talk) 15:30, 24 March 2016 (EDT)
“Hey, I think this template for each item plan could be done better. I don't think we need to create a page for every item, there are other cleaner options.

I think you could probably insert this data right into an article page and have it parsed from the array extension. Or we make a data namespace for these pages so they're not all nested in templates. Either way, it's cluttering up the template namespace and I've still got concerns about making it difficult for regular users to update.

Let's discuss this plan a bit more before you keep making pages. -- Katzeus (talk) 13:31, 3 April 2016 (EDT)”

A data namespace sounds like a good idea actually. I'm on skype, we can talk on there if there is a private way for me to share my name. -- Kapra (talk) 01:48, 4 April 2016 (EDT)

Spoiler Header

Possible you can make a spoiler header for this wiki before I do? Thanks.

Haha, sure I can set one up quick -- Katzeus (talk) 01:15, 6 March 2016 (EST)

Thanks for making this wiki

It's very helpful

External Image captcha

I tried linking to three images from an external source, images of my edits on the wiki, onto a talk page but when I hit edit, it said to protect the wiki I need to answer a captcha below first. I checked, there was no captcha below that message or near the save page, preview, etc buttons, or anywhere. I copied all the text in the page, exited to the front page, went to the talk page organically again, pasted the contents of the page, it still didn't display a captcha. For some reason the captcha isn't showing up when you try to use an external link in some instances. -- Kapra (talk) 03:47, 9 March 2016 (EST)

Thanks for reporting this, I'll take a look and let you know what I can find -- Katzeus (talk) 10:49, 9 March 2016 (EST)

Season expand / collapse tables / containers

Hello. Small thing, but I've noticed that the styling on season collapse tables (such as those on character pages (ex), and elsewhere). So I was wondering if you could perhaps update MediaWiki:Vector.css to have a table class for each season that would apply the styling to the table / table header (and also maybe add a little padding to the table header). Might be worth also making that a template, but making a class for it is probably a good idea either way I figure. Thanks for your time, Fewfre (talk) 20:34, 25 March 2016 (EDT)

Also, maybe give the tables a min-width when collapsed, so that they are all the same width instead of all different sizes? Fewfre (talk) 20:36, 25 March 2016 (EDT)

Query

Hey Katzeus, any idea about my query here? Samwalton9 (talk) 10:43, 28 April 2016 (EDT)

Ah, I hadn't seen that note. If it's in the css I probably set it up. Let me take a look this afternoon and I'll give you an update. -- Katzeus (talk) 10:47, 28 April 2016 (EDT)
Thanks for the fix! Can you move User:Samwalton9/Silo over Silo? I'm not able because of the redirect. Thanks, Samwalton9 (talk) 17:42, 28 April 2016 (EDT)
Done. You should be able to edit redirects -- you'd need to click the page link under the redirected title to get to the redirect page though. Nice work on setting up that page. -- Katzeus (talk) 17:47, 28 April 2016 (EDT)
Ah, of course. I'm used to en Wiki where everything has to be properly attributed so you shouldn't ever copy and paste! Samwalton9 (talk) 17:52, 28 April 2016 (EDT)

Community noticeboard

Hey. It would be nice if we had a community noticeboard on which to discuss general non-admin related stuff; can I just go ahead and set this up or do you want to? Samwalton9 (talk) 05:34, 29 April 2016 (EDT)

This is actually a great suggestion - I'll look into setting something like this up -- Katzeus (talk) 02:28, 7 May 2016 (EDT)

Chinese Wiki

Hi Katzeues,I'm a Chinese StardewValley fan and I've years of experience in wiki-building. I want to set up a Chinese wiki of Stardew Valley so I could help my friends and more Chinese players to enjopy this game. I've asked ConcernedApe about this thing on twitter. He said I should ask you for more details.

My proposals

  • Site/server: due to the content censorship and the great firewall of China's government, the site better be local and with the authorization of ICP number.
    • I'm happen to be the biggest (and only) Chinese wiki farm's owner. I set up this platform last year and it's totally free and no ads for logged in users.
      • I met Stardew Valley in April and soon fell love with it, so does my girlfriend. We've spent hundreds of hours on it and I want make contributions to this game with my specialties.
        • We've tried to set up a wiki earlier and translated almost every terms and contents in the game(on wiki pages, from screenshots omg...that's so hard), and use my methods to display them wikified. then I found you guys build this official wiki , so I thought I should join you. If we could be partners on this, I will provide fully support on Chinese wiki site , every En interwiki links will point at this wiki(.....this is the way it should be). And I'll do all the hard works in translation and template modifying etc.All you need is give me the permission to use your data and image assets.
  • The sites downloading and twiiter/news will all point to ConcernedApe's accounts and we'll encourage our viewers buy the official copies on steam and urge the cracked game players to do the same.
  • As soon as you add our site in the special:interwiki I will add ZH:PAGENAME all by myself in here.
These are generally the GAMEPEDIA's way in cooperation with English game developers. We just do it in Chinese.

About myself

  • I'm a senior wiki editor with 6 years of wiki farm editing and mediawiki develop experience . I found a Chinese wiki of A Song of Ice and Fire back in 2012 and authorized by its origin offical wiki Westros. We cooperated in the following years with other nation's fans such as Spanish/Russian etc. So I know how to build/exchange interwiki links and I'm quite capable of translating things between English and Chinese(both simplified and tradition)
  • I'm hard core gamer and I like indie games very much. I used to be a game designer so I know how hard it must be to develop a game like stardew valley, so I want to help Stardew Valley and other marvelous games get off the piracy's harm in China. I wish to do anything I could to help.

Thanks for your time, Best regards!

examples

here is our page社交(Social)

  • Discards our old contents on stardewvalley.huiji.wiki and move to a new site xinglugu.huiji.wiki
  • use your sourcecode to display data, but use the in-game mechanic explanations we've made before.
    • We translate the text by our own, however, we dont't know if there will be a official ZH localization, (we'll change the pagenames in the future when official Chinese terms have released.)

SerGawen (talk) 01:23, 1 August 2016 (EDT)

Pending Deletions

I'm not sure who to address for this but I filled the pending deletion category with all the spam, duplicates and useless content I could find. I didn't look too deep into the templates section which might still need some cleaning. Vg-tal (talk) 01:03, 29 September 2016 (BST)

Nice! Thanks so much for flagging those pages - I'll take a look as soon and clean that stuff out. Katzeus (talk) 01:09, 29 September 2016 (BST)

Mixed seeds redirect

Hi Katzeus,

On the Farm Maps page under Forest Map, mixed seeds was linking to a not existing page. As a result I made an edit to changed it so it linked to the Mixed Seeds page. However after making the edit I noticed for the other linked pages, you guys are using redirects. I haven't really worked a lot with wiki before, prior did some editing on wikia, but haven't looked into any differences between the two yet. Atm it's linked to the correct page, but not entirely conform with the rest of the page, so decided to give you a heads up.

Sorry for giving you more work and thanks for cleaning up after me ;)

Grtz YuzzzzuY (talk) 11:47, 5 October 2016 (BST)

That's great! The most important thing is that it links to the right page. Nothing to clean-up!! Let me know if you run into anything else you have a question with Katzeus (talk) 16:45, 5 October 2016 (BST)
Alright, but given the option to choose between the 2, do you guys favor one over the other on this wiki?

Another question, I noticed for the tables on The Cave page, someone used a specified width in px. However if I'm not wrong using px can get messy for mobile browsing and lower/super high res screens. So I was wondering whether there were any preferred practices in that regard on this wiki. Just curious for that matter.
YuzzzzuY (talk) 17:08, 5 October 2016 (BST)

Iridium quality

I saw you left a conditional comment on Template:Qualityprice, is it because some items can reach gold-quality but not iridium-quality? Also, do you happen to know the ratio for iridium-quality health/energy? --Vg-tal (talk) 23:38, 5 October 2016 (BST)

Yeah, that's exactly right. I don't know the ratio, but if I come across it I'll let you know. Katzeus (talk) 23:49, 5 October 2016 (BST)
Ok good. I changed the condition to be "ifnot" instead of "if", am I correct to assume the exclusions list is shorter then the inclusions? --Vg-tal (talk) 23:56, 5 October 2016 (BST)
I actually don't think so - I believe the only possible things that can have an iridium star are animal products, forageables, fruit tree fruit, cheese and alcohol. So all of Fish (that's a huge one) and crops don't is my understanding. Katzeus (talk) 00:02, 6 October 2016 (BST)

V1.1 updates

Thanks for all the content you added on v1.1! I uploaded images of the new fish and items shipped collections and did my best to integrate them into relevant pages. I don't know what it means when the file says

or how to edit what is in that, but hoping you or someone else can upgrade my code a bit. First functional, then elegant. :D

Giselle (talk) 08:16, 6 October 2016 (BST)

That's great! thank you! Anything in brackets like that is a template, so the page inside there would be Template:Words!. Anything on that template page is passed through to there...search mediawiki template and you'll get a full overview of how that works :D Katzeus (talk) 16:05, 6 October 2016 (BST)

Item images

Hey there! I was looking at some item images such as Holy Blade.png and I noticed the size was 48x48, yet the actual ingame sprites that I used XNB Node to extract were coming in at 16x16.

So I was about to add information about the Galaxy Slingshot as well as a sprite of the weapon, but I figured I should ask someone who's done item images for this wiki before I upload anything, just so I can make myself aware of any potential guidelines there might be for item images.

I assume your method of grabbing the images was done ingame with the HUD zoom set to a specific size? Would there be any opposition to me separating all the item images in their original, extracted size (16x16) and uploading them to replace the current images? Or are higher resolution (48x48 for example) sprites preferred? Cero Miedo (talk) 21:36, 13 October 2016 (BST)

Oh, and you're an admin to boot! (I just now checked your userpage and saw that). So I came to the right person with my question then :) Cero Miedo (talk) 21:38, 13 October 2016 (BST)
Hi! The reason they're setup that way is browser scaling. There's a number of places where images are used larger than 16x16px (almost everywhere) and if they're scaled up they'll be blurry - but scaling larger images down won't result in any image blurring, and will maintain perfect pixel ratio if they're all at the same increments (48, 32, 16). None of the images are usually displayed larger than 48px, so that's the standard. Katzeus (talk) 21:57, 13 October 2016 (BST)
Luckily, I uploaded File:Galaxy Slingshot.png at 48x48 before I saw your response. Had to experiment a bit to figure out which zoom level gave me 48x48 sprites, but I figured it out. Thanks for the response! Cero Miedo (talk) 21:59, 13 October 2016 (BST)

Polish translation

Hi! I'd love to help a community a bit and translate the wiki to polish. If you believe that'd be nice to have, could you please help me helping you? It probably won't be done lightning fast, but slow and steady wins the race?

Hello! For right now we're only going to support the official languages the game has available. As that expands so will supported languages on the wiki. If we roll Polish into that I'll be sure to send you a message - thanks for the interest Katzeus (talk) 22:37, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

Fix translation for Resources (Spanish wiki)

Hello Katzeus, it's Jhordi. I noticed that you've added a new section called "Resources" in the frontpage ("Recursos" in the spanish wiki), i just wanted to let you know that the translated word we are using for "farm" is "granja", and not "finca". I hope you can fix it when you have the time to do it. Thanks. Jhordi (talk) 20:31, 22 June 2017 (BST)

I believe I've fixed it. Let us know if it's still incorrect!  :) margotbean (talk) 20:44, 22 June 2017 (BST)
Hi margotbean, i thought the edit option was locked like the sidebar and i've just realized that it's part of the frontpage (which is editable), i could've done it myself lol. Anyway, the translation is correct now, thanks for everything :D Jhordi (talk) 21:03, 22 June 2017 (BST)
Thanks for being so quick to notice, and quick to clean up Katzeus (talk) 21:55, 22 June 2017 (BST)
You're both welcome :) Jhordi - ask Katzeus about some of the mistakes I've made on the wiki. ...Wait, then again, don't. Some of them were pretty bad. lol margotbean (talk) 06:38, 23 June 2017 (BST)

Tomato

Hi. Did you see the exchange I had recently with Margotbean over an edit to the Tomato article? Obviously, we're at rather an impasse over it, but my question is more about how disagreements are supposed to be resolved on this Wiki. I have particularly objected to Margotbean's omission of edit commentary or use of the article talk page. But I have noticed that in Margotbean's absence the last couple of days, that you have also overturned an edit on Bouquet in the same manner.

Discussion is certainly a requirement on Wikipedia, the only other Wiki I've edited. So, what's the recourse here? I've had nothing but amiable exchanges with Margotbean in the past, and considerable help. And I'm certainly not interested in driving any contentious exchanges here, such as are found commonly on Wikipedia. I can even see the advantages of not responding to those who vandalize or otherwise mar the Wiki. But I hope my record here has been one of useful and beneficial editing, and in that light I can't see a reason for summary rejections without explanation.

I am fine with simply editing, and have no interest in administrative or comprehensive Wiki maintenance or development. And so it is that I remain as blissfully ignorant of Wiki administration as I can. I don't watch what you and Margotbean have to contend with, or all the overrides that prove necessary. I simply see some that I come across naturally, and lend a hand when opportunity arises, and hopefully that's helpful.

What's not helpful is this Tomato disagreement. I have my thoughts on it, of course, but I'm not determined to prevail. Yet I still think my edit improves the article. What I need is some feedback on why it might not be. This is not Wikipedia, and not scholarly, etc, and I'd at least like to improve my sense of what works here and what doesn't. (I don't think I'm often off-base, but I'm not a typical gamer.) And as far as the Wiki is concerned, doesn't it make sense to ensure that the articles have all the benefits of contributors? While a single person can give perspective on maintaining consistency throughout, no one source can supply what multiple sources can. Isn't that why this is a Wiki?

So, I'd appreciate a reply, however short, at least to say you think my edit should be included or rejected. Then, at least, there would be a form of editorial consensus that doesn't rely on just one person. And if you think my edit is just not relevant to the game, I can accept that. It's just that I was not the one who introduced the idea behind it (see edit history). But the point about vegetable/fruit is one that did occur to me before, and I've had to remind myself while playing the game that the crop is considered a vegetable, because it's not that plain in real life. And ConcernedApe has built in some of these wonderful real-life-like ambiguities also: e.g. Grapes, both crop and forage. Intuitive mixtures are hard to achieve on computers, and I appreciate the thoughtfulness that went into their creation, and the richness they provide in the game. It's not a wonder to me that the original editor seemed confused about game vs. real life. I think the game is all about that.

Thanks for listening. Butterbur (talk) 18:10, 5 July 2017 (BST)

Hey there Butterbur. You've always been a great editor here, and I really appreciate you messaging me about your concerns in such a respectful way.
Our editing guidelines are definitely a lot less formalized than wikipedia, but I 100% agree with everything you said regarding better utilizing comments/discussion pages - I try to not override edits without discussion, and the example earlier today was an oversight (I've touched base on the talk page with the editor). We've always been able to reach agreement over any editing differences with civil discussion, but if there are issues in the case of some disagreements we can look at making a clearer policy. Personally, I'd rather not formalize any 'authority' for myself or any other editors over content unless it seems really necessary. My position has always been that all editors are equally considered - if you see me or anyone else not respecting that please let me know.
Keeping all that in mind with this Tomato thing - I've kept an eye on you and Margotbean's discussion but I'll need to review it and get updated before giving you a full reply. Approaching me is the right step when reaching an impasse with another editor/moderator here, I'll get up to speed on it and get back to you with a response tomorrow. Thanks. Katzeus (talk) 18:50, 5 July 2017 (BST)
Thanks a bunch, Katzeus. I too prefer to avoid formality and application of authority unless absolutely necessary. And I must say that I don't mean any complaint against Margotbean here. Our relations have always been good. And I have noticed that (his? her?) participation was thinner a few days ago than normal, and now is absent a couple of days. The silence could mostly be lack of time, and perhaps a much-deserved vacation. What I didn't want to do was to let the article consideration lag, 'cause I can be forgetful, and I'd like to ensure the best thing is done there. And I figured that a third editor was a good way to get a wider view so it can be settled. Also, I was feeling otherwise grumpy a couple of days ago, and I didn't want that to rub off here. Or rather, I'd just as soon rub it out here. Talk soon. Thanks. Butterbur (talk) 20:46, 5 July 2017 (BST)
Shot margotbean a message but haven't got a reply. I think either way the best course is to move this to the Tomato discussion page and discuss the detail of the Tomato specifically. From what I can see here that's the more appropriate place then the comments. I'll start a topic there about it, and follow up with margotbean about your other concerns. I think the issue you may be having is the pages you're referencing may not exist. Make sure they're created and the name entered is EXACTLY what the page name is. Katzeus (talk) 13:50, 21 July 2017 (BST)
Hi, there isn't a template for my request, that's why I look for one. By the way, I have another question: If I copy a page from this wiki and paste on pt wiki I'm doing a mistake? because on brazilian wiki i noticed that have much pages that don't have links and I'm trying to put all the pages in english from this wiki to there for my companions help me translating easier. Vandalism on Spanish Wiki

Hello, the spanish wiki is being attacked by a russian guy, this person keeps changing the front page to an external link, even if i reverse the changes, that person is still doing it. Username: СУПЕРМАН. Jhordi (talk) 13:06, 3 August 2017 (BST)

Cleaned up and banned - there should be spam filters that prevent that sort of vandalism. Since there was some on that page yesterday too I'm protecting the main page until I can see why those aren't triggering. Thanks so much for the heads up! Katzeus (talk) 14:10, 3 August 2017 (BST)
Thank you so much, as long as these people get banned, we'll be fine. I noticed the changes (vandalism) you are talking about from yesterday, but i couldn't see them live. I don't know why they keep attacking the spanish one =(. Thanks again. Jhordi (talk) 14:30, 3 August 2017 (BST)
Vandalism has hit the Portugese main page as well. I don't suppose the vandal who's been attacking the Spanish and English wikis has the same IP address? margotbean (talk) 15:52, 3 August 2017 (BST)
It's very likely, I've banned them and their IP now. I suspect it's the same editor on all the sites based on the timing and type of vandalism. Thanks for the heads up, I've locked all the main pages until I can setup a new spam filter to protect those specifically. Katzeus (talk) 16:07, 3 August 2017 (BST)

Move pages

Hey now I can't move pages if I do a mistake because of vandalism? :( Sometimes on Pt Wiki i see any pages with wrong names or somethings like, and I want to move them x.x you can reverse this to me or just for some translators please? Pi Polaris (talk) 17:55, 4 August 2017 (BST)

My plan is to setup an edit threshold to allow accounts with a certain number of edits to be able to move pages. For now I've promoted you to moderator on the PT wiki - that should allow you the ability to move again (as well as delete as needed)! Katzeus (talk) 17:57, 4 August 2017 (BST)
Thank you Katzeus <3 Pi Polaris (talk) 17:59, 4 August 2017 (BST)

Some help

Hey Katzeus, since my brother got the game for the Switch and I started playing in German now I decided to help the German wiki. Mostly in translating stuff that's stll in English. I'm not very used to this type of Wiki (More used to the wikia type of site) and I can't really see if there are other users on the German page which I could get in contact with. Also, are there other admins, maybe ones that are also working on the German version?

Suzuna18 (talk) 22:57, 9 October 2017 (BST)

Hi there. Here's a list of active editors on the German wiki. We don't currently have any German mods/admins, but don't hesitate to reach out if you've got any questions about how things work! Katzeus (talk) 10:51, 10 October 2017 (BST)
Hey, thanks for the list. Fortunately there is a moderator that reached out to me. That way I can help more efficently! Suzuna18 (talk) 23:16, 10 October 2017 (BST)

Help with an icon

Hey Katzeus, I've been working on the German freindship page and I renamed the Dwarf to Zwerg (The German name), and now the icon 'disappeared' because I changed it to Zwerg, and there doesn't seem to be an icon for Zwerg. But I don't know how to keep the icon. The syntax says { {NPC|Zwerg }} (Without the spaces). So I don't know how to place the Zwerg without having Dwarf and Zwerg on the page.

I can currently do it like this:

Dwarf Icon.png Dwarf (Zwerg)

Obviously on the German wiki the colors are swapped, as Zwerg is a page but Dwarf is not, but I would prefer to not have the Dwarf. It would be great if there would be a different solution and I could move the position of the Dwarf in the villager list.

Suzuna18 (talk) 13:35, 12 October 2017 (BST)

AHh the syntax you're looking for is . I'll update the template documentation, thanks! Katzeus (talk) 14:17, 12 October 2017 (BST)

Modding Link on Main Page

What do you think about adding it? I made a mockup of how it would look in a couple of different places here: User Talk:Pathoschild -- margotbean (talk) 11:40, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

As a follow-up to your comments on Pathos' talk page, we could move "Foraging" from "The Farm" to "Items", since it's an item as much as Crafting or Shipping is. Also, the first sentence of the page says it's the activity of collecting items around stardew Valley (not just chopping down trees on the farm).
2nd idea: Add Trees under "Items". We have a link to Fruit Trees under "The Farm" but no link to the Trees page. We could use one of the common trees as an icon.
That would leave the first column "Basics" 2 items short, so we could move "Farm Maps" to the bottom of that column. It's a choice you make at start of game that can't be changed, so it's kind of a basic part of the game.
Someday I'd also like to add "Inventory" to the first column, which would make all 3 columns the same length. The Spanish language wiki expanded the inventory page quite a bit, and added the icon under "Basics" and I think it's a really good idea. I've been procrastinating taking the screenshots and building out the page, but we could leave the space for it.
What do you think? margotbean (talk) 06:13, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
I fully support all one of these suggestions. All that restructuring makes sense and the inventory page suggestion is great too - I love what's been done with that page on the Spanish wiki. I'm happy to help with this effort if you need a hand! Katzeus (talk) 12:15, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

MediaWiki API Access

Hey Katzeus,

I'm currently developing a Stardew Valley Discord bot that makes the information on the wiki available to users through Discord as well. The main issue is accessing the data.

I've read that wiki's running on MediaWiki can have an API for developers to access but I'm unable to find anything about this on the SDV wiki. I'd love to be able to create this bot as I don't see any out there that focus on Stardew Valley specifically (see discordbots.org for example).

If you'd like to speak to me directly, you can reach me on Discord at Alcha#2621 or any of my other accounts I have on my user page.

P.S. The bot will, of course, be open-sourced under the CC BY-NC-SA 3.0 license and available on here, on Github.

Sincerely,

Alcha (talk) 23:50, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

Where can I find a list of Wiki pages that need to be created?

Hello

I am a new Wiki user, and would like to contribute a few pages to the wiki if possible. I previously only have translation experience for a different game wiki, but none where I wrote content from scratch. So I would appreciate some tips regarding that and where I can find a list of pages on demand, that need to be created for people to read.

Yours faithfully

German Translation for Alex

Hey Katzeus,

I've tried to work on the German translation for Alex und thought it'd be a good idea to adjust the schedules to the ones on the English Wiki. Unfortunately, that seemed to be too much of a change and I keep getting an error message saying "Large deletion from article by new editors".

Is there a way so that my changes will be accepted? It took me some time to work on it and it'd be a shame if it was all for nothing.

Thanks in advance!

--Tatiziki (talk) 02:23, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

Katzeus, it appears that Tatiziki has made enough edits to push the translation through now. margotbean (talk) 17:20, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
Yup I can see that - you shouldn't run into this message again Tatiziki. Send a message here if you hit any other snags - that page looks great, nice work! Katzeus (talk) 00:21, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

Hey it's me again!

Thanks for your reply on my previous post! I think I've got the hang of it now.

After translating a few pages into German I've noticed something. There's a huge inconsistency concerning the translations for certain words and headlines.

For example, headlines such as "History", "Gifting" or "Quests" have several different translations in the German wiki. Some translate "Gifting" as "Schenken", others as "Geschenk" whereas I prefer "Als Geschenk".
"Quests" has been translated as "Aufgaben", "Quests" (which is theoretically fine since we use that word in German as well) and "Aufträge" (which is also the official translation).

Is there any way to keep things a little more consistent? Like, a page accessible for everyone with translations for frequently used words and headlines? Or maybe there might be other ways?

Of course it should be discussed first which translation might be the best. I would love to hear suggestions from others who have actively been working on the German wiki so far!

--Tatiziki (talk) 16:48, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Good question, it's tricky to figure out where the best place to discuss a translation issue like that would be. I'd recommend the discussion page at Kategorie:Nicht_übersetzte_Seiten]. That page is linked in the sidebar to group pages which need translation and is prob a good place to have a discussion about general article translation standards. I 100% agree it should be standardized. Katzeus (talk) 14:50, 14 February 2018 (UTC)

Getting filtered because of "Mass edit by new user"

Hey, I wanted to add a missing page (Summer Seed) to the german wiki, copied the english version and started to translate it. When I wanted to save it, I got the message, that it was denied because of Mass edit by new user. I think I read about that you need to make some smaller changes to the wiki until you can do bigger ones. Is this true? And if it is, is there a way to get around this? I just want to contribute, but I can't. LudwigSchindler (talk) 17:49, 29 March 2018 (BST)

Hello, I happened to be in the neighborhood, so I went ahead and pushed the edits through. In the future, a series of smaller edits will work -- for example, create a blank page, save it, then add a paragraph, save it, and so on. Good luck margotbean (talk) 23:13, 29 March 2018 (BST)

Editing Spanish wiki frontpage

Hello Katzeus, it's Jhordi. I was wondering if you could give me access or permission to edit the fronpage of the Spanish wiki (weird, I swear I could do that before xD). I'd like to add the Multiplayer (Multijugador) article in the Gameplay section. The Spanish multiplayer article was created a long time ago and it's filled with translated news related to the multiplayer features (notes from Devs and CA), for now. Thanks. Jhordi (talk) 01:15, 1 May 2018 (BST)

We need an icon first, and then we have to figure out where to put the link. I know there's a blank space on the ES wiki now, but that's because the Modding section isn't there yet. I think we had uneven columns before (the last column had one extra entry when we first added the Modding link) and it didn't look bad, but maybe it should go under "Basics" instead? Either way, we still need an icon. Ideas? margotbean (talk) 01:58, 1 May 2018 (BST)
Yeah, I thought Multiplayer could go in the Gameplay section because you know, gameplay, but I don't mind if you decide to put it in Basics, that works too! I don't think we need to add a Modding link for the Spanish wiki since all the modders' content are in English, maybe the link could redirect to the English wiki, but I think that would be unnecessary. For the icon, maybe we can recreate a full version of the half planet that is being used in the Coop menu? Jhordi (talk) 04:32, 1 May 2018 (BST)
LOL, I can't argue with your "you know, gameplay" logic! (Thanks for the chuckle at the end of a wickedly crazy day :D) I am a little sad about the Modding section -- I never stopped to think that all the source code is in English only.
Anyway, I do LOVE the idea of a globe button! For one, if we eliminate the words "co-op", "koop", "coop." etc., we don't have to have 7 (soon to be 11) different versions of the button, and second, it would actually be recognizable at 24 (36?) pixels. Go for it, Jhordi! I've uploaded the standard icon here: File:Multiplayer Icon.png, so you can just upload a new version whenever you like.
Katzeus is in the middle of a hurricaine with the new game release, so if he doesn't respond when the icon is ready, then I can add the link if necessary. Let me know. margotbean (talk) 05:10, 1 May 2018 (BST)
Hurricane is right haha. Thanks for helping with this Margotbean Katzeus (talk) 12:09, 1 May 2018 (BST)
Haha! No problem! Yeah, I can imagine how busy is Katzeus right now with the new release. I'll try to continue the discussion in your page Margotbean, so Katzeus can catch a break :D. Jhordi (talk) 15:35, 1 May 2018 (BST)

Improvement provit calculation

I was looking into profits from crops and i noticed that there is not an investment taken into the formula.
This means that the profit/day is not quite accurate.

For example:
When you invest 10.000 gold

You can buy from the rhubarb (100 gold per seed) 10.000/100 = 100 seeds multiply this with the profit a day(9.23) and you get a total profit a day of 923
You can buy from the parsnip (20 gold per seed) 10.000/20 = 500 seeds multiply this with the profit a day (3.75) and you get a total profit a day of 1875

So is there a possibility that there is a column added to the tables that shows a more precise gold profit.
This can be done by using the next formula: (profit a day / seed price * 100 = actual profit

For Example:
Rhubarb has a profit of 9.23 a day / 100 * 100 = 9.23
Parsnip has a profit of 3.75 a day / 20 * 100 = 18.75

That shows that in the end the parsnip is more profitable then the Rhubarb.

I understand what you're saying - sorry it took me a minute to wrap my head around it.
I like the idea of showing this data, but worry it may be information overload on the crops page. Gameplaywise - I think most players are going to be looking at it from a per-seed/per-farm space perspective. So if they've got 30 spaces which is going to be their best earner per space investment, not based on total gold spent. I think everyone understands that farming a 3.75 profit crop on 500 tiles will earn more then a 9.23 crop on 100.
I'm open to discussing how to communicate a 'return on investment' % somehow. Prob the clearest way would be to use your formula to display then display as a 9.23% and 18.75% return. The data you're suggesting is valuable, I'm just unsure how to display it without cluttering up the tables on the crops page. Any ideas? Katzeus (talk) 19:40, 31 July 2018 (BST)

1.3 Changes

Well, thanks for abiding by my stub removal system! LOL! You're the bestest Admin ever. You're also the only one who read my note, and that's one more than I expected.  :D margotbean (talk) 19:13, 1 August 2018 (BST)

Image Rendering

Since we added the css that was recommended here, I've noticed some images appear jagged (and pretty awful) in infoboxes -- in the base price/profession prices sections where the images are smaller than the original. The Milk and Goat Milk pages seem to look especially jaggedy. I noticed it while working on the ES Template:Infobox and the corresponding milk pages. Leche de cabra looks especially bad.

Before we added the css, the main place I remember seeing blurriness when increasing image size was on the Setting page, where I tried to display the world map and globe at larger than normal size. I've come to believe it's not a worthwhile tradeoff. Maybe we should remove the css. ...Actually, please remove the css! Thanks, margotbean (talk) 17:37, 9 August 2018 (BST)

Fair enough. I've removed that from the body declaration, and created a new class and id for that image rendering method named pixelperfect. If any instances pop up where there's blurry rendering, we can manually force the image to render using the old method using that. Katzeus (talk) 13:49, 12 August 2018 (BST)
Perfect! (Pun intended). Thank you, it looks much better!! margotbean (talk) 16:44, 12 August 2018 (BST)

Permissions to translate to Spanish

I'm trying to update some pages of the Spanish wiki from the English wiki, which has more information, but when I try to make a big change, the spam filter blocks me and I can't edit.

Could you grant me editing permissions?

Thank you very much.

"Mass edit by new user" problem.

Hello, I'm Meenoru, and I've been using this wiki for a good while now, but recently registered since I felt I could help fill some missing dialogue here and there.

Recently I've tried to add a good number of lines missing form Penny's post-marriage, but I've been greeted with the following message:

"This action has been automatically identified as harmful, and therefore disallowed. If you believe your action was constructive, please inform an administrator of what you were trying to do. A brief description of the abuse rule which your action matched is: Mass edit by new user."

I've already posted it in the Admin Noticeboard, but I've noticed you're one of the more active Admins, so please don't think I'm a spammer.

Thank you in advance.

EDIT: Somehow I tried to finish an edit there (and forgot about the problem that was happening) and it worked here. Sorry to have bothered you!

No problem! Sorry you were having that issue - that filter only applies to users below a certain number of edits, so after you've crossed that you shouldn't see it again! Katzeus (talk) 11:32, 14 November 2018 (UTC)

Your translation on the Japanese wiki Main page

Hello! Katzeus. I came from the Japanese wiki because I have a favor to ask of you.
You translated "About" on the Japanese wiki main page the other day. This translation is literally correct, but, it's strange. I wish I could fix it myself, but, I don't have authority to edit it.
So, I would like to suggest three alternatives to "約".
The first is "StardewValleyについて" which means "About StardewValley". The second is "概要" which means "Overview," and finally "このゲームについて" means "About this game".
I think "概要" is the best because the others are a little long.
I would appreciate if you could fix this. Thank you. Galaxy (talk) 08:32, 16 December 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I'm not a native speaker so I'll trust your recommendation! It's been updated to 概要. - Katzeus (talk) 16:40, 16 December 2018 (UTC)
I had confirmed it. Thanks for your fixing!! Galaxy (talk) 03:19, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
The English text is verbatim from the Steam page; perhaps the Japanese one could be as well (despite the missing first sentence about open-ended RPG)?
What do you think? --BryghtShadow (talk) 05:03, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
Sounds like a fine suggestion to me! I left the first sentence in there to match the English page - does that all look correct? - Katzeus (talk) 12:48, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
I wonder if the first "Stardew Valley" should also be written as 「スターデュー バレー」when the next sentence wraps it in 「」... hmm) An alternative to calling it a カントリーライフ would be 田舎暮らし. (Japanese IGN called it 田舎暮らし農園シム = country livelihood farm sim). --BryghtShadow (talk) 09:41, 20 December 2018 (UTC)
Those options sound fine to me - which do you think sounds the best? (I'm obv not a native speaker) Katzeus (talk) 12:41, 9 January 2019 (UTC)

You really need to be more familiar with mediawiki syntax and the configuration of this particular wiki first. You also need to be more careful to preview your edits before saving them. Wiki italian version

Hi, i started to translate this wiki, i want help for italians because many don't know english. I'm a translator of ARK:Survival Evolved Mediawiki, his game and other. I have problem when i translate or used this wiki but i can't post link of photo to show you. I have another problem. After i translated 1 page i have this error: Adding external images/links, but i don't add link, i only translate.Zaffira (talk) 16:01, 29 April 2019

Hi Zaffira! I've checked the abuse log, and I don't see any changes that you weren't able to ultimately make to the Creazione page. The error about adding external links pops up for new users who haven't made a lot of edits. I think you may be past that point now. If not, keep making a few more edits, and you'll pass that restriction.
The other error was attempting to embed an external image. This wiki doesn't allow for that, unfortunately. Images need to be uploaded first, and they need to be Stardew images. There's no user profile images like on Fandom or other wikis. margotbean (talk) 18:47, 29 April 2019 (BST)
After hours and don't touch nothing (i was out from home) now my translation is done for the page, is ok o.o Zaffira (talk)
Another question: why is too much slow to save the page or reload? I'm in France, this is problem? Because my internet is good and i don't have problem with my Gamepedia wiki. Zaffira (talk)
The wiki has been giving me the same problem (in all languages) for a couple of days now. I'll let the Admin (Katzeus) know about it. It's not just you! margotbean (talk) 20:17, 29 April 2019 (BST)

Problem about Chinese Wiki Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese

Howdy! I'm from Chinese wiki. The Chinese Wiki used "Traditional Chinese & Simplified Chinese Conversion System". The Simplified Chinese "星露谷物语" convert into Traditional Chinese not "星露穀物語❌", is "星露谷物語⭕" You maybe check the "MediaWiki" Traditional Chinese & Simplified Chinese Conversion System. I'm trying to make edits to the Wiki but Margotbean keeps reverting them

I think Margotbean is acting like a tyrant. Reverts my edits in an hour and can't explain why in 2 days. So I adjusted my edit to the best of my ability based on Margotbean's feedback and they reverted it again within 2 hours. Told me I am acting rude and says they won't "explain" to me what's wrong with my edits until I apologize. I work in the software industry and I know for a fact this is not how professional interactions work around changes to code. Source: https://stardewvalleywiki.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Crops&action=history and https://stardewvalleywiki.com/User_talk:Margotbean. Basically, wanted to let you know that Margotbean is preventing people from making changes to the wiki, which is not really how being a moderator works. I would like to make contributions to this wiki, but I cannot. WhiteBear (talk) 00:53, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

Help: tried to add music to event modding section

I created an incomplete masterlist of music ids for use in event cutscenes and tried to add it to the page, but was blocked for being new. I don't know what to do about this, and am worried my work will go to waste. TwentyUno (talk) 12:12, 10 January 2020

I've added a link to the Modding:Event data page, at the bottom under "See also". It's a modder's spreadsheet containing all sound and music bank ids. As you'll see, it's quite a lot of data, probably too much to put on the wiki. Cheers, margotbean (talk) 18:38, 10 January 2020 (UTC)

User rights and template idea

Hey Katzeus,
I just saw you changed my rights to translator and I was just wondering if that changes anything at all?
Furthermore i have an idea for a template, however I am not sure if this is realizable and I dont know enough about Wiki language till now (maybe I should look closer into it).. So here is what i thought about, maybe you can tell me wether this can be done:
It would be nice to have a template like Langlinks or LanglinksGerman (to differentiate between languages if needed) or something else that adds all language links available from the English page and switches the one you translate to into the English one.
For example: If I enter Langlinks into the German page from Woodskip it would take
de:Waldspringer es:Muyu fr:Poisson de forêt it:Saltaboschi ja:キノボリウオ ko:숲고기 ...
from the English page and give out
en:Woodskipper es:Muyu fr:Poisson de forêt it:Saltaboschi ja:キノボリウオ ko:숲고기 ...
This way when a language is added translators do not need to change all the pages as it would automatically adapt. From looking into all the templates for infoboxes it seems this might be doable as they pull info from the English page and use it on the translated, right?
Thanks a lot in advance, Nyles (talk) 20:28, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

Hey Nyles -- in continuing our discussion on the DE wiki, the reason the templates pull info from English is because I manually copy/pasted translations into them. Maybe Katzeus has some ideas, but I really don't think there's a way to avoid manual copy/paste to do this.
Also, I recommended you be added to the translators' group because of all your hard work on the wiki, so thank you! It mainly makes you CAPTCHA exempt, but also allows you to move pages from one name to another. margotbean (talk) 20:44, 13 January 2020 (UTC)
Hey Margotbean, thank you so much!! CAPTCHA exempt is so great news, I don't know how often i wrote those villager names and ConcernedApe's name the last weeks :D , and also moving pagenames is very helpful sometimes. I had a feeling you would tell me this is not possible, hope is on you Katzeus.. Nyles (talk) 21:00, 13 January 2020 (UTC)

How to translate words in infobox

When I translate pages, I couldn't translate category word in inforbox. how to translate inforbox(e.g. translate "source" infobox(infobox ... |source = ... |sellprice = ...))? Cadin (talk) 08:16, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi Cadin - I'll answer your question on the Korean wiki. margotbean (talk) 15:37, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

Add french translation

Hello, I want to add some french translation but the editor block for mass edit for new user. Can u help me please ? ZOeil5 (talk) 13:03, 13 March 2020 (UTC)

I've added the translation to the FR wiki. margotbean (talk) 16:27, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

Continuing the Discussion

I would like to move the discussion off of Margotbean's page so she does not get new message alerts if the conversation is to move between you and I, if that's okay. If not, I can remove this section and post it back on her page.

Can I ask you then why we can't have the clothing items as Redirects to the Tailoring page? I've always felt that if something is not a page (like the specific Professions), it should be redirected to the main page, in order to make searching for things as quick and easy as possible for the end user. I don't exactly see why it's not something that's needed.

I'd also like to ask why we cannot create Category:Hidden categories. It shows up in Special:WantedCategories, and I've always thought that that was something that we should try and keep as empty as possible.

I do find it a little off that my inactivity is cited as a factor yet to my knowledge there was no effort to try and re-coordinate with me. No message was left on my talk page to try and bring me into the discussion. I suppose that's water under the bridge though. Oath2order (talk) 20:24, 27 April 2020 (UTC)

Sure, we can chat here! For most things, like professions, that is how redirects are used. We came to the decision not to use that structure to redirect all the sub-shirt name pages in order to avoid adding a hundreds of redirect pages which would then require interlanguage linking and management. Multi-language management plays a big part of our decision making in this (I know that wasn't really an issue when you were helping out here before) - we maintain the same site standards for all sites, and to mirror the work on all 11 languages for approx 300 unique shirts = 3300+ redirect pages to manage/create. Searching google for a shirt name brings up the wiki tailoring page, as does searching in the search box -- in the months since the update it's something no one has complained about - it's not something that's an issue I can see for wiki users.
All that said - discussion is always open to improve the wiki! If it's something you would like to chat about a better place would be Talk:Tailoring for full visibility/history/public involvement. If you feel strongly I'd suggest making a topic there. For the hidden category thing I'm not sure on that - I'll have to come back to you.
As for coordinating with you....a message was left on your talk page after you created these pages. You made no attempt to communicate before editing that you'd like to resume working on the wiki - not sure how could we have coordinated this with you. Are you suggesting we should have tried to engage you during the discussion about redirects even though you'd not been active in years?
Either way, I suggest you take a some time to re-familiarize yourself with the wiki, things here have changed a lot since the game launched. If you'd like to remain a moderator/active editor you'll need to understand those changes before charging in. -- Katzeus (talk) 23:23, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
I mean more as a general thing over the past years. I don't know. In other places I've edited, if there are old moderators, typically they get poked at to see if they intend on being active and if not, their powers get removed to prevent the risk of people coming back to Back in the day, we didn't have to ask for permission to do things.
I don't mean to harp on this but I go to the Spanish wiki, there's 255 redirects. French has 39, Italian has 31. Some of which are broken redirects. You say "mirror the work for all 11 languages" and maintaining the same site standards but I'm not seeing that. I can already see a bunch of the pages that just *don't exist* on the Italian wiki page (their version of Artifacts is basically just red links all around. I can't fault anyone for that because if you don't speak the language, you can't do much but the argument over same standards does not hold water.
Please do get back to me on hidden categories when you do though. Oath2order (talk) 23:59, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
Yes - there are less total redirects on the Spanish wiki then you're suggesting adding for shirts. There isn't a policy to not use redirects - this was a specific decision to avoid adding thousands of them for one page. The other two sites you mentioned (French and Italian) are newly added, so the work to sync the content up with the rest of the wiki is behind the others (this is what Margot mentioned - "there's lots of work on other languages to be done". Neither of us speak a second language either - yet we maintain and manage these other wikis.
We don't have a policy to remove mod permission because we've never had any issue with mods leaving/coming back and it being an issue (until now). I do agree it would be good to clear out inactive moderators, if for no other reason than to reduce confusion like this - I'll clear out the list and notify any who are inactive. I'm also going to remove your moderator status - it's clear from your comments you're way behind on the current state of the site. You're welcome to be re-promoted once you've re-familiarized yourself a bit. -- Katzeus (talk) 09:26, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
Coming back to the hidden categories thing - we've actually only used hidden categories for a few months. I looked back at the discussion history and the logic at the time was the categories inside were all temporary so a page wasn't needed. But since all these temporary categories (mostly to track update issues and bug validations) have their own pages, I think you're correct it should have one as well. Additionally, it's something functionally tied to mediawiki which will be used in the future, it makes sense. Sent a message to Margotbean outlining this logic and they agreed, and I've restored that page. -- Katzeus (talk) 11:52, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
Glad to hear it about hidden categories! And also glad to hear I had moderator status removed. It's quite clear to me that the culture has shifted into one that I do not particularly want to be a part of. There's also an inactive administrator.
On another note, I notice Stardew Valley Wiki is uncategorized and always has been, given the status of my user page. I've always felt it should be under the top-level generic category Category:Browse.
Third and finally, on other wikis I've helped set up, there a way to set up the system to have default welcome messages for new users, which I've noticed helped retain new people. The way I think it's set up is:
  • MediaWiki:Welcome-enabled set to "page-user message-anon message-user"
  • MediaWiki:welcome-message-user set to "Welcome to the Stardew Valley Wiki!" and this should end up with a message sent to their user talk page.
  • Other pages used were MediaWiki:Welcome-message-log and MediaWiki:Welcome-user-page (though this one is just the default set-up for a user page.
I don't know if it's possible to set that up here, let me know if it is (also the Categorization of the main page (so I can cross those last two long-standing things off my profile page). Oath2order (talk) 12:19, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

Why I can't edit the page?

I want to add to the page https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Multiplayer software that me and a lot of my friends use to play multiplayer, but I got answer that my actions are harmful even when I don't attach any links... I want people to know that there is alternative, that easier and proven to work good. thank you!

Top Contributor Page?

Hey Katzeus, I spoke with Margot about this and was told you may be able to answer. I was wondering if the wiki has a page that lists users by the number of edits they've made? - Odin (talk) 21:16, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

Hey Odin - there's no feature like that here (at least not that I'm aware of). I've used another wiki that lists this, but it's driven by an extension on that one. -- Katzeus (talk) 10:04, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
Alright, thanks for the reply! - Odin (talk) 12:48, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

Hungarian translation

Hi! I noticed that the Controls on the main page is translated to 'Játékvezérlők' on the hungarian wikipedia. It means controller. We use the word 'Irányítás'. The eel, why does the 'Behavior' of the 'Fish' side also exists as 'Hal' 'Viselkedés'. I hope you can fix it and thank you! Kroszki (talk) 20:07, 29 November 2020

Hello Kroszki! I've fixed the link on the main page. I'm not sure what you mean about the Eel's behavior... There are no official translations for fish behavior in the game, and I see that you've translated them on the Hal page. If you're happy with the translations, I can add them to the fish infobox, so that they are automatically translated for all fish. Is that what you're asking?
(Also, I apologize for inserting myself into Katzeus' conversation!) Let us know! margotbean (talk) 14:45, 30 November 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for your response! I would be glad if you could add the translation to the fish infobox (as far as I have seen only the moderators can edit the infoboxes, am I right?). An other question would be about the Combat/Skill page, where some hungarian references appeared, tho they don't have an existing page (on the english Combat/Skill page the "slime egg-press" has a hungarian reference, which is "ragacsos tojásprés", but on the hungarian combat/skill page, it appears as slime egg-press). My question would be: why are some translations showing up while others are not?
An other question would be about the rusty sword. I have translated it on the weapons page, but could you add it to the weapon infobox?
-That Food on the main page is translated to 'Élelmiszer' we use 'Ételek' and the Cooking page is translated 'Főzés'.
Thank you in advance! Kroszki (talk) 17:57 1 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi Kroszki! I've moved the conversation to your talk page on the Hungarian wiki. We can continue talking there, thank you! margotbean (talk) 18:40, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

Unable to upload new version of image

Hi,Katzeus! Please forgive my poor English. I'm from Chinese wiki and created my account on Chinese wiki page. However, I can't upload new version of images on some pages using "Upload a new version of this file" link recently, such us Shrine of Challenge and many other pages. Insteadly, the page says that "You cannot overwrite this file." And the upper right corner of these pages says that I haven't logged in. Nothing happened after I clicked on the "log in" link. I have tried to use another broswer, but is doesn't help.

Besides that, the cache of images seems to have something wrong. Usually I have to upload new images twice to update the cache file in order to show images in wiki pages. When I upload a new version of image, the server would generate last version's cache and incorrectly show last version's image in relating wiki page. Horizon98 (talk) 08:10, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the message - I'll investigate and see if I can determine what's going on! -- Katzeus (talk) 17:15, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
I'm having this problem as well, I can't delete an unused image. margotbean (talk) 18:29, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
I think this is corrected now - could you both have a check and verify? -- Katzeus (talk) 11:23, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
Thanks! It looks like that I can upload new version of these images now, but the cache of image is still wrong (or slow to update). I just uploaded a new version of [File:Walnutnorthcircle2.PNG], and the thumbnail hasn't update. Horizon98 (talk) 11:50, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
Fixed for me, thank you! margotbean (talk) 20:04, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

Asking for adding new pages to Chinese wiki's mainpage

Hi! Could you help add this page (zh:Help:编辑入门) to Chinese Mainpage. It's a guide of editing, which is translated from Help:Editing. I think it would be very helpful for new editors. If you decide to add this page, you can edit "mainbannermiddle" section in this way:

Code

Horizon98 (talk) 14:25, 20 January 2021 (UTC)

Besides this, the link of zh:苹果酒森林 on the mainpage which is generated by zh:Template:Mainmenu is a wrong translation of Cindersap Forest. According to line 1141 of Stardew Valley\Content\Strings\StringsFromCSFiles.zh-CN.xnb ("MapPage.cs.11186": "煤矿森林",), the correct translation is zh:煤矿森林. The name on the signpost near Marnie's home is "煤矿森林" version as well. --Horizon98 (talk) 16:11, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
I've added the help page link to the main page. I see that you and another editor are discussing the name of Cindersap Forest, so I'll hold off on making changes to that link for now. margotbean (talk) 19:28, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for your help! We have redirected zh:苹果酒森林 to zh:煤矿森林 on 20 January. Horizon98 (talk) 05:20, 22 January 2021 (UTC)

Participating in improving the French wiki

Hello,

So I'd like to improve the french section of the wiki, since there are some typos and many pages not rightfully linked or just created, but I'm stuck because of the - obvious - reason I just signed myself in. Is there any possibility to remove the whole "mass edit by new user" thing for me or about how long should I wait for starting this whole project of refreshing french part? Thank you very much for the answer and sorry for the bother.

About moving my bot account to Bot Group

Hi, Katzeus! I created a bot account zh:User:Horizon_Bot a few days ago, and then made many minor edits including fixing interwiki links and updating gifting information on Chinese wiki. You can see these edits here: Contributions. Thus, could you help move this account to the Bot Group to hide these edits in recent changes page. I have asked Margotbean and he said that only you can make this : ) Horizon98 (talk) 06:55, 31 January 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for helping out - I've promoted you! -- Katzeus (talk) 12:22, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
