Character Quotes - Manual of Style

Hello Matticusmadness! There is no specific manual of style page, but there are some general guidelines for content here: Help:Editing.

The short answer for why the quotes' format isn't standardized across all villagers' pages is that no one's taken it upon himself to standardize them.

I think on some pages, the quotes may have been added before the quote template was created (this is the template used on Sebastian's page), so they couldn't have used it. Then editors who came along and added quotes simply copied the existing format.

The reason I haven't standardized them myself (and I have considered it), is that they are all incomplete. Even the pages with massive quotes sections don't contain all quotes. To do that, one would need to dump the underlying data files for each villager (before and after marriage) plus data files for each festival, and probably a couple of other data files I can't think of at the moment. So, before I "pretty them up", I feel like I should make them complete. And before I do any of that, the villagers' schedules need to be worked on. So quotes get pushed to the bottom of the "to do" list.

If you wish to standardize the format, by all means do so! My personal opinion is that the quote template makes the section look better, but it does add significant length. So, it's your choice if you wish to undertake the task. Best regards, margotbean (talk) 17:58, 4 January 2019 (UTC)

That makes sense. I only have SDV for PS4 myself so I couldn't simply tap into a data file like you could. Although I do have a screenshot of a Lewis quote that's probably not well known about...
So there's basically still a lot to do if your list there is anything to go by. Ahah. Got it. I'll be... I dunno... Somewhere! Heh. Matticusmadness (talk) 02:20, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

Sig

MM -- yep, I changed your signature, but did so absent-mindedly as I was thinking about my respone to your comment. Your signature is not breaking any rules at all, I simply can't read the light colored text. But, you are free to customize it as you wish (within the boundaries of decency of course!) All the best back to you, and I apologize for the confusion! margotbean (talk) 18:12, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

I'll toy with the sig's colours a bit more then. I appreciate the reply, Margot. :) MM (Communications) (Crops) 20:53, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

Quotes

Hello again MM, I wanted to leave a short note reminding you that our goal is to keep the wiki accurate -- I'm seeing a lot of quotes added with questions about when they actually occur. So, the procedure is to make a note on the talk page if you're unsure, then change the actual page when you are sure. This saves the admin (and me) a lot of cleanup.

I understand it must be a bit frustrating not to have access to the data files that would give the information you're unsure of. Not sure how to fix that, but please please stop posting quotes with comments that say "move this if it's not right"! You're giving me anxiety. Warmest regards, margotbean (talk) 20:28, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

Hi Margot.
Yikes! I had no idea I was giving you trouble with that! I sincerely apologise! These things sometimes get past quality check, as the saying goes. I'll try and keep that in mind, (and seeing as I remembered the 'question points' thing from the Alex talk page, as proven on Sam, I might just be able to do it!)
I considered continuing this on your talk page, but thought that the mention of me leaving a message over there might be a spook / anxiety trigger. I'm not the most emotionally sensitive person... Anyway, yeah, my apologies. Point taken, lesson learned.
All the best! :) ^^' MM (Communications) (Crops) 21:16, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
I knew you would understand! Thank you! But, don't be afraid to leave a message or question on my talk page in the future -- I'm not so fragile.  :D margotbean (talk) 17:58, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

Haley's Dialogue File

I saw your recent edit to Haley's quotes saying you're convinced she only says a particular thing after 6 hearts. You are correct, sir! But since I had to double-check, I'm going to place her main dialog file here for you. You can interpret it using the modding dialogue page.

I'll make it collapsable, and please feel free to delete it if you want to copy/paste it to a text file on your computer, or for any reason.

Quick tip: She only thinks of getting rid of her clothes at 6 hearts, as indicated by the "6" in the "winter_Wed6" entry. All the best, margotbean (talk) 18:55, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

Margot you're an absolute star! This should definitely be very helpful! Thanks a ton! :) Just so you know, the next character I'll be beefing up 'Affer Marriage' quotes on is Elliott. He's at 5 Hearts on the file I use now, but I'm starting to get Duck Feathers, and my Pomegranate Trees are growing.
Thanks again! MM (Communications) (Crops) 19:53, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
I thought I read that you had the after-marriage files from someone on discord, but maybe that was the generic file for all after-marriage quotes? Well, in any event, here is Elliott's specific file (spoilers!).

Only the 'After Divorce' ones I'm afraid Margot. My apologies for any confusion! I appreciate you passing me on the quotes like this! :D Many thanks! MM (Communications) (Crops) 17:50, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

Version History article bug not fixed

Hi, Matticus. I'm not sure how, but your recent edit to the article seems to be present in the source, but is still not reflected in the displayed version ("back got out"). I don't know how to correct it. Hope you do. Good luck. Butterbur (talk) 03:32, 4 November 2019 (UTC)

Boing! My second thought revealed that the text error was in the article twice (also in the main release list). Fixing it now. Butterbur (talk) 03:37, 4 November 2019 (UTC)

1.4.4 Gift Tastes

Matticus -- you changed the GiftsByItem template on Lemon Stone and Triple Shot Espresso, but read the rest of the pages. The 2nd sentence on Lemon Stone needs to be removed, and the "Trivia" I added to Triple Shot Espresso and Coffee needs to be removed as well. A note in the history section would also be a really great idea. (nudge nudge) margotbean (talk) 20:47, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

Done I think. Given Jas and Vincent, was the only thing in the ‘Notes’ section on both pages, i’ve removed the ‘Notes’ section entirely from them. Figured you’d want it ‘not there’, rather than blank. All good? MM (Communications) (Crops) 21:07, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
Yep, thank you!! margotbean (talk) 21:22, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
