Welcome

Just saw the record of your user creation! Here's wishing you a hearty welcome!

I left a message at Margotbean's talk page some hours ago. Now, I hope you don't consider it talking down to you! I thought then that perhaps I was giving words of encouragement and direction. Not so much, maybe.

Excellent job! I was a software engineer, some twenty and more years back. A classical musician in my youth. Couldn't continue that: injury. A couple of orbits on the job circuit; now grounded, which is good too. Liked engineering, but wasn't fond of the business ambiance.

Which is what I saw was missing in what you wrote, and was glad. Now I see why.

Funny. Eric Barone didn't want that corporate environment either, and created this game instead. Makes me feel we're all in a better place out here. May you enjoy this piece of it as much as I have. Hope to run into you again. Cheers. Butterbur (talk) 04:18, 22 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi Butterbur, As someone who enjoys ballroom dance, I know all about muscle memory. :-) And the fishing stuff is nearly impossible on a mobile device because tapping on the screen just isn't the same as hitting a button on a PC or console. And I've been a software developer for almost 33 years now (active duty Army before that), but most of what I've worked on has been scientific or technical in nature. I did do some business stuff, but it was pretty boring. Cheers, Popsy (talk) 17:02, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
I agree. Mostly boring. I had priorities outside of work that limited my choices or I might have tried relocation. One has to pick one's poison too, sometimes. No real regrets, but sometimes I'm wistful. :-) I started out in scientific computing, spent 18 months in Los Alamos as a contractor on temporary assignment. But the company went belly-up.
My only mobile device is a smart phone (iPhone). Hate the thing. Deuced awkward to use. I find the whole touch interface to be primitive and lacking in finesse. Can't imagine doing more on it than absolutely necessary. My sympathies. Cheers, Butterbur (talk) 01:24, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
