Possible Gifts

I got a Purple Mushroom from Linus. We should probably make a list. I am unsure if what gift you get is dependent on who you get your gift from, or if Linus will always give a Purple Mushroom or possibly other things instead. Edit: My gift recipient was Pierre and I gave him a fried calamari, which is a loved food for him. -- Kapra (talk) 04:58, 13 March 2016 (EDT)

I got Pink Cake from Pam, after having Harvey as my gift recipient -- Botanist (talk) 19:42, 14 March 2016 (EDT)
Emily gave me Wine, and I gave Leah a Salad (a loved food). Fewfre (talk) 21:17, 20 March 2016 (EDT)
Linus gave me a Purple Mushroom. I don't know if it's truly random but Linus is one of my only two 9 heart villagers. I have 3 10 hearts but they're all "single" characters. I was assigned Clint as my target. --Redplatform
I got a Nautilus Shell from Caroline after giving Alex coffee (liked gift, not loved) Botanist (talk) 16:00, 30 March 2016 (EDT)
Gave Emily an amethyst (loved gift), received Nautilus Shell from Shane. --Samutz (talk) 16:45, 2 April 2016 (EDT)
I did 14 total runs on this. My giftee was George, and my secret gifter was Leah. I gave George Fried Mushroom (loved gift) 12 times and a Crystal Fruit (neutral gift) 2 times. I received from Leah Pumpkin Pie 4 times (of which once was when gifting a Crystal Fruit), Jade 8 times, and a Purple Mushroom once (when gifting George a Crystal Fruit). I would do more runs, but the whole process takes a bit of time and I wanted to continue on with the game. --Marion Est (talk) 18:37, 10 April 2016 (EDT)
I dug in to the game's code and found how it determines the gift. A few select secret Santas, such as Clint and Robin, have a set list of possible gifts, children (I'm not sure if this means only Vincent and Jas) have a small set list, and then a general list is used for the rest of the adults. The game picks an item from the relevant list at random. As far as I can tell, who you gave a gift to and what you gave them has no effect on this. --Samutz (talk) 16:39, 5 April 2016 (EDT)
Another note I meant to mention. I haven't found any evidence that a Stardrop can be obtained from this festival. It's not in any of the gift lists and I've only seen it referenced as a purchasable item during the the Stardew Valley Fair in the festival code. --Samutz (talk) 16:45, 5 April 2016 (EDT)

Possible Bug for Item Given at Winter Feast

Had Marnie as my secret giftee for the feast so I figured, 'What the heck, I'm growing diamonds in my crystalarium, that'd be a fine gift.' So I grab my diamonds and go off to the feast. Didn't bother to check my inventory before going home and sleeping. Checked my inventory in the morning and my whole stack is gone.

Is it just me or can someone else confirm? --Gr13v3rVal3ntyn (talk) 13:44, 30 December 2016‎ (UTC)

It's not just you; I've added the bug to the main page. Sorry that happened to you! margotbean (talk) 20:18, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
    • NEW BUG Patch 1.2.33**

I was in the mines prior to the event. Tried to go to the event via mine car at 1:00PM. I arrived in town and the event did trigger. So I left and came back in by 2:00. Still didn't trigger. Trigger the event by walking in only?? Someone else please confirm.

Crash during FotWS

Spoke to Marlon during the Feast of the Winter Star, year 3, with beta co-op installed (but currently in single player). This crashed the game in two consecutive instances. I wised up the third time and just left him alone. No Telefrag Plz (talk) 03:29, 12 June 2018 (BST)

This should be fixed as of v1.3.18. If it is not, please submit a bug report here: https://community.playstarbound.com/threads/stardew-valley-multiplayer-beta-known-issues-fixes-2.145034/ --margotbean (talk) 17:55, 12 June 2018 (BST)

Can Someone Please Tell Me Where the Wizard Is?

Does anyone know where the wizard is? He's often in unaccessible locations, and he has dialogue on this wiki, so he must be there somewhere. Until I know this is going to drive me CRAZY!! Thanks. Fun Cupcake i81 (talk) 01:34, 29 March 2020 (UTC) Fun Cupcake i81 =)

He doesn't attend the Feast of the Winter Star, the dialog is from underlying data files. I'll add a note to his page. margotbean (talk) 16:59, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

Item Sources on other Pages

Gifts you can receive from this festival are not listed as sources on some pages, yet are listed on others. Seeing as how most of them did not have FotWS as a source, I started to delete FotWS from other pages to follow consistency thinking it could be added in later following discussion. Halfway through, I thought that having a discussion beforehand probably makes more sense. I think it should remain as it is a legitimate source, especially as magnets and dressed spinners have Festival of Ice in their sources. Sylphoid (talk) 00:10, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

So, one takeaway lesson is to use talk pages first before making edits. ;)
About 11 languages ago, I was extremely concerned about such things -- formatting being consistent across the same type of page (bulleted lists, non-bulleted lists, etc), and now my time is limited, so my main concern is that the information on the page is accurate.
A short anecdote: I started to add "Traveling Cart" as a source to all fish pages where it applied. Then, I made a comment in my notes that "the chances are so low, I ought to remove the ones I added already". And that's where I left it.
While it's true that you can obtain some items from trash cans, fish ponds, and festivals (etc.), if the chance is extremely low, the info belongs in the body of the page and not the infobox. If we can nail down an exact percentage, then it can be moved to the infobox, but right now, that's not possible for the Traveling Cart, and involves complex multiplications for Fish Ponds.
So, that's where I've left the wiki at this point. I would encourage editors to consider whether or not a source is truly viable or just a rare random occurrence before adding to the infobox, rather than the body of the page.
Also, the magnet and dressed spinner are not random events, they are always the prize when you win the fishing contest, thus the appearance of the festival on the pages. Hope this helps provide some clarity. margotbean (talk) 04:33, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
Thanks! This does help clarify how I should approach editing in the future. As for truly viable vs rare randomness, I can follow your line of reasoning for not including the source if the outcome probability is really low. It's just that I view the infobox as all or nothing (probably shouldn't think that way) and if a low outcome probability source exists but is omitted, then it would be impossible to acquire that way e.g. Rainbow Shell can come from Rainbow Trout fish pond but it isn't listed therefore not possible. However, if it is listed, one can quickly determine there are multiple ways to acquire such an item, albeit some not as efficient methods as others.
Regardless of my opinion on low/high chance, is it okay to remove 'Festival of the Winter Star' and 'garbage cans' as sources from relevant pages? And if I stumble upon a page that has a source listed but it is part of rotating stock, should that be removed as well? Sylphoid (talk) 10:01, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
Speaking strictly about infoboxes, yes. I think we both agree that a source (no matter how small) belongs on the page, but in the body of the page rather than the infobox. One exception is the Tea Set, since it can only be obtained at the Feast of the Winter Star, it has to be in the infobox. Trees and seeds that have the Traveling Cart price as a parameter shouldn't be removed. There may be other exceptions across the 2000+ pages of the wiki as well, but in general, yes. margotbean (talk) 17:15, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
