A [[Livin' Off The Land]] tip (1 Fall, Year 2) informs the player that Rare Seeds take only 24 days to grow, not the full 28 days of the season.
Not fully confirmed, but it may be possible to get the rare seed outside of just Spring and Summer. I received it from the Travelling Merchant on Winter 21, Year 1 for 800 gold.
