'''Farming''' is the [[Skills|skill]] associated with planting, growing, and harvesting [[crops]] on [[The Farm|the farm]], and also the maintenance care of [[Animals|livestockfarm animals]]. It's one of the main income sources for the game, and provides most of the ingredients for [[Cooking|cooking]]. To plant crops the player must first till a patch of soil using a [[Hoes|hoe]]. If [[Fertilizer]] is to be used, it should be placed before planting the seed. Unless it is raining, the crop must be watered each day to grow. This can be done with the [[Watering Can]] or [[Sprinklers]]. If the player fails to water crops for a day the crop will not die, but it will not grow that day, delaying the harvest date. When the crop has been watered for the required number of days it can be harvested. Most crops can be harvested simply by picking them up by hand, but [[Kale]], [[Wheat]] and [[Amaranth]] can only be harvested using the [[Scythe]]. Standing in the center of a 3x3 square of harvestable crops and holding the right mouse button, then moving the mouse over the crops, will harvest them more quickly. If the player wants to keep livestock they must first visit [[Carpenter|Robin]] to build a [[Coop]] or [[Barn]] for them to live in. It is also advisable to build a [[Silo]] in which to store [[Hay]] for the animals to eat. Once this is done, animals can be purchased from [[Marnie's Ranch|Marnie]], although once [[Chicken|chickens]] and [[Duck|ducks]] start laying eggs, they can be placed in an [[Incubator]] to hatch new animals for free, while mature barn animals have a small chance to give birth to live young. The entry-level barn and coop grant access to [[Cow|cows]] and [[Chicken|chickens]], but upgrading the buildings allows the player to purchase a wider range of animals.
