* A lot of items in the game can either be eaten or sold. An item's gold to energy ratio can be calculated by:
amount of gold for selling the item / energy restored from eating the item
* Early on in the game, you players are generally very short on gold and do not have access to any crafted food (with the notable exception of [[Field Snack|Field Snacks]]). Thus, at this point in the game, you players generally restore energy with foragables, fish, and basic crops. But which is best?
* Given a choice between eating two different items, with all else equal, it is optimal to eat the one with the lower gold to energy ratio.
** Importantly, lots of items are used in quests, lots of items are useful for gifting, and lots of items are used for crafting. '''This page is not a replacement for knowing all of the uses for an item'''; you should only be using the ratio as a baseline for your decision of what to do with it.
** eat the item if it has a ratio equal to or less than 2
** sell the item if it has a ratio above 2
* Of course, you do not have to use a cutoff value of 2; you can simply survey the raw ratios below in order to get a general sense for each item's general "eating value".
