On the Friendship page, it says Abigail dislikes all vegetables. Yet this page specifically points out Eggplant, Parsnip, and Yam. Does she dislike them more than other veg? Margotbean (talk) 19:30, 2 November 2016 (GMT)margotbean

Item Like Changes in 1.4

We have seen that there have been (so far unconfirmed) changes in who likes which items. In an attempt to get a full list of NPC <> Item combinations, I wrote a mod that calls getGiftTasteForThisItem() for all permutations of NPC and Item. The result is a table with almost 18000 entries. I am rather confident that this is the full picture of who likes what, taking in all the exceptions and special cases the game itself does. For example, it shows that Gus likes Bread (see cell L64), as per discussion for that NPC. You can have a look at the table here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1K4fJVV5sYXEkGC5ZJG28nQ3iykUvIi5asU55DiyAa-E/edit?usp=sharing

Should this be confirmed in peer review, I suggest a rather radical change to the wiki: Take away all the entries e.g. about exceptions to Universal Love etc, but rather have the exact 1:1 mapping NPC <> Item (or vice versa). Additionally, I suggest to have the entries on each respective item and NPC page derive from that central entry. Not only would that deal with the need to edit changes in (at least) three different places, but the entries would always be in sync.

Let me know what you think! TheBlackOne (talk) 17:34, 30 November 2019 (UTC)

I have spoken with the developers, and gift tastes changes are under review. I also have a program that calculates all gift taste changes, and can update once the final word is received from the devs. margotbean (talk) 18:07, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
What do you think of the idea to have a central NPC like page and all other entries for NPCs and items derive their information directly from there? It feels rather tedious and error prone to edit things in so many different places. TheBlackOne (talk) 18:18, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
I've been doing it for 3 years, it's no problem. margotbean (talk) 18:20, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
I must be honest with you, I am slightly confused... It's an idea to make the information in the Wiki more robust, faster and easier to maintain and potentially more correct, but I have a feeling that you rather want to keep the old way. I understand that I did not deliver a lot of details on the ideas I have, and again, it is a rather radical change. I understand, that you are one of the main contributors to this wiki, and with all the changes that 1.4 introduced, from afar, you seem under quite a lot of pressure to get them documented. Would you be so kind to elaborate why you would rather have it stay at the current setup and inflict yourself with more work to introduce change? TheBlackOne (talk) 18:34, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
Your enthusiasm is admirable, but the gift taste changes in 1.4 are unintended. I would expect them to be fixed, so the number of changes required will be minimal (i.e., adding new items). The lookup table system you're proposing would actually make for a lot more work than will be required. But, it's all speculative at this point, since the developers are reveiwing gift tastes as we speak. margotbean (talk) 18:44, 30 November 2019 (UTC)
