Range

I don't believe the 'Range' section is currently accurate.

Multiple players including myself have documented cases where the range described in this page does not cover their crops.

This (https://i.imgur.com/3fV6Nkg.png) is a screenshot of a crop being eaten by a crow at 16 x 8 despite being within the range described by the page.

Other users have also documented that their crops have been eaten within that range (16 x 6 in this case): https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/comments/eh78io/deluxe_scarecrows_working_as_intended_planner/

The range described on the Wiki currently matches with the Stardew Planner, but I believe both may be inaccurate given the evidence.

The radius is definitely 16 units, but I believe the formula is linear distance rounded down to the nearest integer.

If you chart out the ranges it looks like this

That explains how the normal scarecrow range got its shape. I believe this also explains why the above 'issues' above occurred: the crops were outside of the protection range.

I've never found a case of a crop being eaten within that circle. --Electricerger (talk) 01:30, 27 February 2020 (UTC)

I've uploaded your image, and replaced the entire section with it. If someone wants to count the tiles covered, go for it.  :)
Ideally, the image can be updated to a farm screenshot with the numbered tiles overlaying it. For now, accuracy is more important than pretty, so to speak. Thanks! margotbean (talk) 17:54, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
I've added the tile marker images, and some rudimentary tile number markings. With the help of the Data Layers mod, I was able to confirm that you were correct in your image, and the Stardew Planner website is incorrect at the moment. margotbean (talk) 00:11, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
Building off of this I've submitted a code change to the Planner GitHub which contains a new overlay path using the revised area. --Beeawwb (talk) 22:44, 26 March 2020 (UTC)
Change is live in the Planner so highlight range should now be correct. --Beeawwb (talk) 22:29, 31 March 2020 (UTC)

Range not working correctly

Range doesn't seem to be working in my game, any help would be appreciated in figuring out why this is, it's not a storm as no storms have happened and I have lightning rods too. I apparently don't have permission to link the imgur photo's. :\ --Dudewheresmyfarm (talk) 05:59, 25 May 2020 (UTC) i.imgur.com/imcZmGP.png i.imgur.com/fz8HSqC.png

Perhaps you could say what about it is not working. For example, where is the crop you lost located in relation to the scarecrow? And why is that different from the range given in the article? Crops that are eaten are removed from the tile, while those struck by lightning leave a withered plant behind. What exactly do you see in your case? Butterbur (talk) 16:12, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
From the images, I can see you're using mods. The best place to ask about mods not working correctly is the SDV discord or the "Mod Support" section of the official forums. margotbean (talk) 16:47, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
