Walnuts' location map ?

Hi ! I've been thinking about creating a collection template dedicated to golden walnuts. Like Template:Collections_Cooking, "Template:Collections_Walnuts" (or whatever) would show the location of every walnuts on a GIsland's map. Sounds way easier to read than a raw table or worse, the actual hints scattered through the island's page :)
Let me know if you do or don't think that would help.

I'm not a mod, but I've also been kind of itching to make some kind of list for where to find the golden walnuts. I don't know how to contribute to the kind of map you're describing, but I'd be down for helping locate things!Polk (talk) 21:18, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
I wish for a map of all golden walnuts as well, but there are 130ish of them, scattered all over Ginger Island. That would be one heck of a map, I fear for the filesize (and load time) of the background image.
I really think it would be better to concentrate on creating a table or list of all locations, with *smaller* images used as needed. margotbean (talk) 21:25, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
Tbh, I was thinking about the already existing maps on GI's page (File:Ginger_Island_North.png and the others). The goal would be to find a way to add multiples points on that picture, other than editing the image itself. But at least, a table would be great :)

I agree that maps with links would be awesome. Maybe a project to be hosted offline, and linked to from the wiki? With css restrictions on this wiki, editing the collections templates has been a bit of a nightmare for me (you can see, one of them is in a stub state because I have to fix all the blue links)... With a webpage hosted offline, you could use an actual html <map> tag, and the whole project would be 1000x easier. margotbean (talk) 21:37, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
Also an option: what do we think about including a table something like this?Polk (talk) 21:43, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
Walnut Locations
Quantity Type of Discovery Area How to Find Image
(Example)1 Exploration North Island Go through secret path behind X palm tree, it's on a Golden Walnut plant (Image here)
We could start here, thanks Polk, I'll help of course. I keep looking for a map, maybe a SVG, which is more suited to this kind of work, but it would have to be hosted elsewhere since this wiki won't accept .svg files :(. At the very least, a .png export would do the job.

Sounds good! Keep us updated if you find anything out that could help with hosting the map. Until then, I've started a table that we can work with in the meantime. It's definitely a work in progress, and if anyone has any ideas for different formatting/order/wording, please feel free to go (heh) nuts with it! I'll be adding pictures and entries over time. Hello, might I suggest hding the table with a spoiler? Vedvod (talk) 01:30, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi! I've added an option to collapse/expand the table like the tables for the Night Market. Is this similar to what you had in mind? Polk (talk) 01:48, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
I was thinking of the secret notes page, but yes, that. Thanks. Vedvod (talk) 04:23, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi there, I'm first-trying something like this.
It's a svg (xml structured) file, so you can open it with a text/code editor, or with view source blob button on the github page. Only added shapes are vectors here, they are very easy to add/remove/change since they're xml markups. NB : I used https://editor.method.ac to visually build this first map, it's very basic but free and 100% online.
I can add hyperlinks to each shape, but Github Gist seems to disable them. Maybe it's not necessary anyway. I'll dig more.

Without the interactive links, the static image with all locations highlighted/circled reminds me of the Egg Hunt image at the bottom of the Egg Festival page...
Mind you, that's one HUGE image on the page, and I had to compress the heck out of it to get it to upload (I think the limit was <2MB at the time)... but you could upload similar images for the island sections, and maybe link to them from the page. Or embed them, even. Call it plan B (or C or D). Keep working on your project, though! margotbean (talk) 18:15, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

I was wondering if the parrot hints was intended to have all the possible things it can say, or just some examples? Bevause I've had at least one that isn't on the page, but I wasn't sure if it was worth updating the page for it. KalteHerz (talk) 06:07, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

Hi there! Personally I've been tossing in all the hints that I find. If you still have a few that haven't shown up, go for it! Polk (talk) 01:50, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Walnut in Island South that the Parrot thinks is in Island North?

I've noticed that the first Walnut listed in the 'Island South' section is actually categorised under "Hidden in Island North" by the Parrot Hints. It's one which is a hidden path in Island North which takes you back to Island South. It took me a long time to find this final walnut, as the parrot was pointing me to Island North so I didn't think to check the South section! I've put a note on the hint to mention that the parrot categorises it as Island North, but wasn't sure if maybe it should be listed in the Island North section instead to help people trying to use the wiki to find their final Walnuts from the parrot hints? --Noonsa (talk) 17:57, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
