Deletion

I am commenting here as requested on the main article. I am very new to the game and am playing through my first year. I found this shop schedule via a Google search and it was helpful to me in terms of planning my day around a specific festival. I don't know whether that warrants it staying up as is, but I just wanted it to be known that it has been used since being marked for deletion. Thanks! Whtqn (talk) 18:11, 20 September 2017 (BST)

Oops--I spoke too soon. Perhaps I misread the schedule, but the page seems to need some adjustment for accuracy. I planned to visit the Blacksmith on Winter 8 (the Festival of Ice) which I thought would be open due to this page, hence my comment above. However, at least in my game, the shop is closed during regular business hours on this day (a Monday). Whtqn (talk) 18:43, 20 September 2017 (BST)
Thanks for your feedback, Whtqn! I've done some testing, and it seems that everyone is closed on Winter 8 -- the Carpenter's Shop, the Blacksmith, the Fish Shop, even JojaMart. Everyone's house is "locked" as well (the Mayor's Manor, George & Evelyn's house, etc.). I tested with the latest version of the game (v1.2.33) and with v1.11, so it seems this schedule was in error when it was created.
The good news is that we have new accurate information to add to the wiki thanks to you! The bad news is that (like you) I still have no idea if the page should stay or go. margotbean (talk) 21:37, 20 September 2017 (BST)
I agree this page seems sort of extraneous - but if someone so quickly commented here maybe it's been helpful! I think seeing if there's interest is great, and if there's support for the page I'm sure we could add some images and appropriately link it in some articles.
One suggestion - maybe make this info part of a separate 'building schedules' page which includes a section for shops (which this could redirect to) and also includes open hours for residences. One stop shop for all the open/closed hours. Would build out the page a bit and seems more comprehensive. Thoughts? Katzeus (talk) 11:56, 21 September 2017 (BST)
My thoughts:
I feel very strongly ambivalent.
On the one hand, the page was created almost a year ago, with a comment on the admin noticeboard that it had been added, but the author wasn't sure how to integrate it into the wiki. No one's touched it since then.
On the other hand, it might be mostly correct and helpful for players.
Here's the catch: If we integrate it into the wiki and expand it, it should really be correct and accurate. That means a lot of in-game testing. I've noticed things like Pierre is often away from the sales counter an hour before the closing time stated on the in-game map, and Elliott's cabin is "locked" more than it's open, even if you have 10 hearts of friendship with him. (The in-game map doesn't list open hours for Leah or Elliott, like it does for the houses in Pelican town square.) I also haven't seen corrections made to operating hours on the individual pages, even when they're wrong. So, we're talking about a lot of work here.
If there's interest, then we should do it. If not, then we shouldn't. I'm hoping for more wiki users to comment!
The day I deleted most of the Calendar page, it took maybe 20 minutes for two people to comment "WTH happened?" -- one of whom was a user who created a new account just to undo my changes. I was hoping to gauge the traffic on this page before I decided to take on a rather large project.
Of course, if someone else would like to take on the work, that would be super awesome! I really don't want to unless there's enough interest. margotbean (talk) 19:14, 21 September 2017 (BST)
Here's two cents more: I'm not sure. But I am sure that shop schedule info, no matter where (if) it's currently located on the Wiki, ought (in principle) to be included, complete, and accurate. Who will do the work is a question, of course, and I'm more a drive-by contributor than a project type. However, I do tend to make changes whenever I notice something wrong or incomplete, and I would do so here. I've never heard of this page, so, perhaps like others, I never looked at its deficiencies (actually, I still haven't).
But I like the idea of this page. Right now, there seem to be a hundred unpredictable details as to when you can go through a door to visit a villager or do business, and that sometimes makes it highly inconvenient for figuring out how to accomplish goals. Moreover, all these details are scattered across many pages, if they even exist at all. Having a central focal point could really be helpful to lookup, if one only knows the page exists.
I'd like to suggest that the page could be beneficial and should be retained and developed until it's dependable. I think I could guarantee I'd be there doing some corrections and clarifications, once I understand better how doors lock and unlock. A central place also has the benefit of allowing one to see more easily what the game patterns are - to get a feel for "the ways things are done", so that the details aren't so much scrambled and isolated. But right now, I can't tell when one place is acting like another, and when it's acting like no other. Getting the feel of this kind of meta-information is a means to playing proficiency, and is in this case, critical to organizing one's game time, which is especially critical in turn on days when you have a lot of things as goals. It's my thought that if this page is done right, it will be a nice addition to helping players become more sophisticated players. That may not be everyone's ultimate purpose, but it can certainly help avoid annoyances or frustrations for those who meet unwelcome barriers in their play. P.S. Here's one example off the top of my head: Harvey's schedules and dialogs both indicate the possibility of visiting him in his rooms upstairs. In my experience, I haven't found one opportunity to do so. If the clinic isn't open, you can't get in. And if it is open, he's not there. And the clinic isn't always open when you (I) expect it to be. (I haven't really explored the Wiki info to see if there are errors, but somehow, after many hours of playing, I still find contacting him when I want to to be problematic.) His living situation is tied to his workplace, but the different workplaces seem to work differently, and not always very logically. (Medicine is an around-the-clock affair in real life.)
So maybe I'm actually thinking more about the relation of schedules in the game: schedules of the shops and their relation to schedules of the villagers. I wouldn't necessarily suggest that all of that be put on one page. I would suggest that a page for shop schedules does present many opportunities for integration with all the other operative schedules in the game, and it's clearly one of the primary sets of schedules. Butterbur (talk) 17:12, 22 September 2017 (BST)
P.P.S. Tables work well for presenting information concisely. They do not work so well for presenting many differing details. They also do not work so well for integration with other pages, where you would want another page to point to a specific schedule within this page. For that, you need sections/subsections, and that's where the many details and interrelationships can be mentioned. I'd retain the table, but use it as the page summary, but have the article's content fleshed out more within text. Each shop's needs are its own. But consider the inadequacies of the table to handle the Fish Shop neatly. You even need an extra note there to explain the table notes. The table alone does not serve the need, and that may also explain its lack of integration heretofore. Butterbur (talk) 17:34, 22 September 2017 (BST)

Delete Request Removed

I've removed the delete request for this page, for now. If nothing else, the info. about Harvey's Clinic may be helpful.

I attempted to add this page to the navbox for buildings, but it looked awful, and didn't fit in well with the rest of the entries. Still looking for a simple way to start integrating this page into the rest of the wiki.... margotbean (talk) 19:39, 23 October 2017 (BST)

As I mentioned above, I do think integration will be problematic until the page has text in sections, and not just the table. Butterbur (talk) 09:02, 25 October 2017 (BST)

SDV Fair

Note: All homes and shops in Pelican Town, Cindersap Forest, and the Mountains are locked on Stardew Valley Fair day after I skipped the festival. margotbean (talk) 20:51, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

Proposal: Move to Shops

I’d like to propose that this article be moved to Shops and be expanded to provide more information.

Some of the new information would be: details on how selling to shops differs from using the Shipping Bin; a table summarizing who buys/sells which categories of items. The existing information would become one subsection of the longer article.

The expanded article would become a link on every shop’s page (i.e., in the first sentence where it says X is a shop...). This would fix the semi-orphaned status of this page and make it easier for readers to find all the information. Nebulous Maestress (talk) 15:18, 21 August 2020 (UTC)

Oasis not always closed for festivals?

Just realized I was out of starfruit seeds on the day of the Festival of Ice. I caught the bus and the Oasis was open for me to buy the seeds, and then I got back in time to participate in the festival. This page says the Oasis is closed for "All" festivals - but has this ever been confirmed? Roaminump (talk) 22:55, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
